The Official "should I retake" Thread

What’s the score breakdown Kanye?

740 CR
770 M
750 W (8 Essay)

Sad part is, everything stayed where it was at for practice tests except CR… 780 would have sealed it.

screw that, i’m done with the SAT. twice is enough

1st time

590 CR
590 Math
660 Writing

2nd time

700 CR
570 Math
660 Writing

I MIGHT consider retaking for the math section, but i dont think i’ll ever get that high of a CR score again. besides, i hate the freakin SAT’s.

CR: 700
M: 750
W: 670 with 11 on esaay lol
i’m gonna retake for math and writing

I really want to go to either MIT, Columbia or Brown- the issue? My SATs- my october scores only went up by 30 pts compared to last may:

Critical Reading 620
Math 680
Writing 610

Im most likely going to retake in December- its the only way I think.

KanyeRice(West) no point retaking. You’ve nailed every section. Universities will look beyond your SAT scores once you’ve hit your score.

Where can you see you writing MC and essay scores?

730 Cr
770 M
720 W (this is what I want to retake for… I got 80s on my PSATS, and either 780s or 800s on my practice tests, but I got -11 raw this time… I think I misbubbled, and it’s killing me)

I’ve taken this three times. I want to go to Brown.

First Time:
770 - CR
720 - WR (10)
720 - Math

Second time: Everything went down…

Third Time:
800 - CR
780 - WR (9)
660 - Math

Should I retake? I’m worried about the essay score and math.

Same boat as above.

1st time:

CR: 640
MT: 680
WR: 730

2nd time:

CR: 650
MT: 710
WR: 680

3rd time:

CR: 670
MT: 690 (***…)
WR: 800 (yay!!!)

Should I retake???
Have not taken ACT at all, except for a practice one 2 years ago (before takign any SATS) on which I got a 29. Should I take the SAT for a 4th time? or take the ACT?
I’ve heard that colleges in general do not like people taking the test 4 times. and since Standford, Yale require all scores and Common App has only 3 spots, how do I reprot the 4th score?

thnx for the help.

1st: 600CR, 720M, 600W = 1920
2nd: 670CR, 690M, 690W = 2050
3rd: 760CR, 690M, 730W = 2180
Combined: 760CR, 720M, 730W = 2210

My score went up by 130 each time. I’m going to be applying to the Ivy League colleges so I have no idea if I should retake it a 4th time.

1st time (still a junior):
700CR
800 m, wr (12 E)

Should i retake CR? that’s always been my hardest subject, but i’ve gotten around 730-750s on the practice tests. i still have a lot of time but idk if it’s worth it… btw i’m hoping to apply to hyps next year

1st time as a junior as well.

CR: 800
M: 750
W: 730
Composite: 2280

Should I retake for a higher score?

Thanks :)

Hitman:

That is an excellent score and I would recommend that you not retake. 1550 CR/M is in the “1600” zone.

Now my turn:

In November I got 710CR/740M/800W
And that superscores to 730CR/740M/800W (2270)

I will be applying to the Computer Science programs of schools like MIT and Carnegie Mellon. My grades are poor compared to the average person that is accepted (probably like 15% percentile of those accepted have grades as low as mine) and my ECs are probably average or slightly below average. Academic honors will also be quite a bit below average. If I retook and got, say, 780CR/770M/800W, would that significantly boost my chances compared to what I currently have?

Thanks

just in general, about retakes… i would say definitely don’t retake a 2300+ and only retake a 2200+ if it’s your first time/ you feel you didn’t prepare much. randwulf if you really think you can make 2350 and your other stats are lacking, then that would boost your chances, but i don’t think it would be a significant boost. i would retake if you’re sure you can do that much better and if you haven’t taken it 3 times already

Thanks for your answer sinflower.

I have taken it twice so far and I’m pretty sure I can bring CR up. Math would take some work.

You may not be able to answer this, but am I obligated to send new scores that I receive to colleges that opt out of score choice? For example if I take it again and get an 890, and I’ve already sent all of my previous scores to the school, can I “save my $9” and not send the new scores?

how bout me. senior, will have to take in January. so far done it only 2X

single sitting score
2200-
750M
800W(12Essay)
650CR ****

overall I’d be happy if scores were closer together. But, I want to go to Princeton & 650 is in the bottom 25%

CR 660
M 580
W 730
Composite: 1970

I’m applying to NEU, GW, and Fordham. Should I retake it?

This is more of a “I’m definitely retaking but is a 2200 possible?”

CR-590
M-750
W-670 (69 MC/8 E)
TOTAL: 2010

190 point increase seem possible?

Crazy:

Was that your first time taking the test? How much did you prepare beforehand?

The increase you want is most definitely attainable, but it will take work. But sit down with the blue book and go through all of its 8 tests and you’ve got a good shot at it (use Xiggi method/always figure out what you got wrong and why).
