woot woot my score jumped 160 points! 2150->2310. dont be discouraged and retake

March SAT: 710 M, 530 CR, 630 W (10 Essay): 1870
June SAT: 760 M, 610 CR, 690 W (10 Essay): 2060

I really want to try and get into UVA (I’m OOS).
retake?

I got a 2320 and my parents want me to retake it. I really don’t. Does it really matter whether or not I get a higher score than my first one?
760 CR
770 Math
790 Writing

^ you’d be an idiot to retake that

Even if I’m aiming for premed programs? :/

@ViolaDear
I don’t mean to be nasty, but if you retake that…you deserve a lower score.

It’s not like I want to retake it -.- I’m firmly against it but it’s just my parents who are all like “Oh this kid got 2330 and retook it and got 2400 or this other kid got 2300 and retook it and got higher.” So they have “proof” that others have done better so I should too. Geez.
I appreciate your vote for not retaking it though.

790 is as good as an 800.
770 on the math is as good as an 800 because it’s 2 careless mistakes. Colleges know this
760 reading is amazing

Here’s the thing. 2300 won’t get you rejected anywhere. And won’t get you accepted at the top place unless you have something special to bring to the community.
Colleges want individuals who are passionate. Not high score churning robots.

And 2320 and 2350 don’t really differ by much

I posted my own thread asking if I should retake before I saw this thread, but I’d really appreciate some advice!

So here’s the deal: I got a 35 on my ACT (34E, 35M, 35R, 35S), which I was not expecting at all. Converted to SAT scores, it’s significantly higher than my superscored SAT of 2120 (660CR, 750M, 710W).

I know colleges put more weight in SAT scores. I’ve already sent my SAT scores to most of the colleges I’m planning on applying to. I’m primarily wondering if I should try to study more, specifically on the CR section, and try to bring that score up. I don’t think I can get better than the 750 on math. I can maybe pull out an increase on writing. So, should I retake?

And, another question. I’ve also taken three SAT IIs. Math IC: 730, Chem: 760, Lit: 730. I’m wondering if I should try taking Math IIC? Or any other SAT IIs? Thanks.

EDIT: If it matters, I’m looking to apply at Rice as well as a few other top-ranked schools.

Is taking the SATs for a fourth time totally unreasonable and ridiculous? I’m a rising senior, and I’m looking to apply at Columbia or Brown (as my reach). I wanted to bring up my critical reading to at least a 700, but I didn’t the third time around. Here are my scores:

January 2009
CR: 660
M: 710
W: 660

March 2009
CR: 620
M: 760
W: 780

June 2009
CR: 680
M: 780
W: 800

Obviously, I’m pleased with my latest math and writing, and I definitely improved in all three sections, but I’m still not satisfied with CR. I know even taking the SATs three times is a lot, but would it hurt if I tried for a fourth?

rmm13, i would check the sites that tell you each college’s policy on the SAT and score reporting, I know that some of them don’t even see how many times you take it or like it doesn’t matter.

Serenefire, just send your ACT, colleges place equal weight. No point taking another standardized test if you don’t have to.

I really don’t know why I’m asking this, but should I retake? Here are my scores:

December 2008:
CR - 640
M - 720
W - 720 (2 wrong, 8 essay)

March 2009:
CR - 690
M - 760
W - 670 (8 wrong, 10 essay)

This is all considering the fact that I have a 3.4 GPA at a highly competitive school.

EDIT: Also, I’m not applying to Ivies, and my reach schools are probably going to be CMU, WashU, etc.

Hey ccers!

I took my SAT Reasoning for the first time last June. I got
CR: 740
MA: 800
Wr: 750
Essay: 9

Now, I am quite happy with my 2290, but do you think I need to resit? My essay score is dismal, and I only got 2 wrong in the multiple choice section, so I feel that I could do much better if I sit it again. Please let me know what you all think.

Thank you so much!

Victor

Leave it. You’re good

Your essay score is not “dismal.” Please.

I only took the SAT once back in october. I prepared a little bit for it and was quite happy when I got my scores back. Now, I am not so confident in my scores. The hardest schools I am applying to are Bucknell and Duke (engineering).

CR: 660
M: 780
W: 650
Total: 2090

I can retake this October but I wont have any time to prepare. is it worth it?

hey guys !

I took my frist SAT last month and got 1970 ( 600CR, 710M, 660W). I mean it’s dissapointing since I really expect >2000 ( Sentence Completion is fine but I lost 13 on Passage ). I will take PSAT next October and maybe SAT again on May. Is there any advice ? I’m stressful since it will be on the record forever and I lost faith in my ability.

I have already taken the SAT three times but I really want to get a 2200+
My score for the last SAT I took in June was
M: 760
CR: 630
W: 690
Total: 2080
Should I retake it in October? Especially since English is not my first language (lived in the US for 3 years) and I’m getting better at Critical Reading and Writing every time.
All the colleges I am looking at are very competitive to get into (HYPS).

Bump because we’ll need this thread

And because I started it and I want more views. Lol
I won’t reply on it though

Someone else should hopefuly

40 points short of goal worth retaking?
Really depressed
