The Official *UF* Class of 2019 Results Thread

I got that message too yesterday and when I filled the survey out it said only ADMITTED students can put the deposit down. I called yesterday and they said it is an error

The way it was explained to me was that you are competing against the other students who applied from your own school. If you attend a school with a difficult program such as IB , UF does not consider it fair for those students to compete against schools that are not able to or do nor offer the same type of curriculum.

@r2rickster‌ Well I’m the only one from my school applying. They should give me a scholarship if I’m the top applicant.

Just to add a bit more information regarding honors at UF- the preferred registration is not for the duration of your time at UF. It begins with your second semester freshman year and runs through sophomore year. You will not enjoy preferred registration after sophomore year. This was explained by a staff person at the Honors program when we toured this summer and attended “Afternoon With Honors”.

“Q: Do Honors students receive early registration?
A: Yes, on a limited basis. When registering for classes in the second semester of their first year and for classes in their second year, students who remain in good standing with the program are eligible to register during the early registration period for up to 10 credit hours of courses. Please note that some departments limit early registration for certain courses so that not every course will necessarily be available. Early registration does not apply during Preview (it is technically impossible).” A good perk but not as beneficial as some other honors programs at other universities.

Thanks for the clarification, @saismom‌

Does anyone have information about last year’s recipients of the Sunshine Scholarship for OOS? I’ve scoured the internet and can’t really find any standards or baselines for years past.

thanks.

@MzJCricket Below is the 2014 UF Admissions Report

Page 12 has the number of scholarships given to freshman students. The last three in the table are for OOS students and are tuition reduction awards (based OOS tuition is almost $29,000 a year):

Alumni
Amount $8000
Number awarded: 42

Sunshine
Amount $16,000
Number awarded: 17

Gatornation
Amount $20,000
Number awarded: 12

UF’s holistic admissions is similar to other schools, in that they try not to disadvantage a student attending a poor school. UF wants the student to take the most rigorous classes available at their School. They also want to take the student who outperformed their peers (in the same class).

For this reason a student at a poor school, who could only take 2 AP classes, may get accepted while a student in an IB program gets denied.

However, that poor performing school may only send 2 or 3 students to UF, while the IB high school sends 40.

Page 10 of the 2014 Admission report list the top 10 feeder schools to UF. They are dominated by IB/AICE/AP heavy high schools.

UF also takes Geographical residence into account, but no one really knows (outside of admissions) what that means. UF does say its “Important” in the CDS info, so it matters. The thinking is UF wants to ensure it’s not biased toward one part of the state, but it still wants to select the best students.

@Gator88NE‌ So if at my school (I live in FL), about 30 students apply, who would most likely get in? The students who took the most AP courses and who are the top of their class?

@Gator88NE‌ So if at my school (I live in FL), about 30 students apply, who would most likely get in? The students who took the most AP courses and who are the top of their class?

So if im oos and dont get one of those 3 scholarships i dont get money/ so its not likely ill get money?

@itstamara The students who took the most rigorous classes would have an advantage, but UF doesn’t require you take EVERY AP class. If you took what would be considered a rigorous class load of AP classes at your school, then UF would say it’'s rigorous and move on to other items to review.

In your example of 30 students, it’s an advantage to have taken a more rigorous class load, but remember that UF looks at a host of items. Someone with a slightly lower GPA, who took about the same number of AP classes could get accepted over someone who took a few more AP classes. That’s where EC’s, and such come into play.

@Maddyher123 A lot of accepted OOS students will end up not enrolling into UF, and often cost is a reason.

Last year, 56.5% of in-state students that where accepted ended up enrolling (56.5% Yield rate). However, only 24.4% of OOS enrolled (24.4% Yield rate). I’m sure cost was one of the factors that came into play.

@Gator88NE‌ Oh I see. My sister and I are both applying and have pretty good/similar stats and ECs, and we’ve take every AP offered at our school except for 2. We were just wondering how we’d be put up against other students at our school who are also applying.

@foxnicole7‌ Hi there, and welcome! We seem to be getting some CC newcomers, which is fantastic

If being an international student ups my chances, then hallelujah! I know that in general the standards for international students are somewhat higher, but hopefully that works in my favor.

In any case, if I do get rejected, I have a painstakingly made appeal letter waiting to be sent. I truly hope that won’t be the case though, it was a bummer writing it, but I guess my systematic ways got the best of me. I’ve become a bit pessimistic these last few days, it’s probably all of these doomsday songs I’ve been listening to, right?

Hey, @AGoodFloridian! After reading all of your posts, it seems like you’d be a great addition to the gator family… I love your enthusiasm. Try not to get too pessimistic!! You’ll end up in a great place whether you go to UF or not. Be proud you made it this far!

And the same goes for everyone else, too!!

You’re absolutely right. In that case, I must say…

Friends… You came here as outlaws- nerds, geeks, jocks…
You came here alone, in chains.
All of that is in the past now!
Here, on the Thread, we are all one house. Remember these words!
We are the pens in the darkness, we are the writers on the Thread, we shall wear no crown and win no glory
Now our tests begin.
They shall not end until our breaks, we pledge our books and honor, for this night and all the nights to come now our tests begin.
For this night and all the nights to come… Now our tests begin.

Fall is coming brothers.

Alright, I had my fun for tonight, see you all tomorrow!

My son is waiting for a decision from UF and I want to know what the decision letter looks like. Is there a difference between the acceptance and the rejection letter? (Fireworks, balloons)

Haven’t seen the rejection, thank goodness, but the online acceptance is pretty generic. Don’t expect fireworks or balloons lol. The packet is very pretty.
