i saw somewhere online that the azn dude jeremy is going to harvard

Yeah he is. He has a blog at myspace

Melissa's school is actually not a bad school. It is one of the best private schools in Los Angeles. She is on a full ride there. Just to let you know.

Melissa ended up at Pomona with a full scholarship.

I'm just wondering how to get on this thing, because I'd school these children hahaha. (No pun intended.)

wait, then *** are they doing on the show if they got scholarships already?

That Gerald dude looks like a fricking druggie.

ur only saying that cause hes black

ur only saying that cause hes black

Okay, sure.

does anyone know where all the other contestants ended up???

i think it's pretty clear how african americans are favored in admissions, i am not that they are less intelligent, i mean i have met my share of really smart african americans, even the girl on the scholars, the black one, who won the showdown twice, she is extremely intelligent, that's why i don't get why they get advantages over students of other races, especially asian(chinese+indian). i mean look at the ppl competing and the ivy reps. as one of our posts pointed out, 2/3 of the ivy council are black, and 4/10 contestants are black, obviously the african american population is taking away the multicultural diversity from the top schools, i mean i only saw 1 asian dude!!! on that whole show, what is ABC trying to pull here huh? and the ivy admissions, if there are too many asians dominating your school population, where is the asian judge?
this doesn't make any sense!!
[/quote]

YOU don't make any sense. It doesn't matter if they are black or white they got picked for the show because of their personalities and accomplishments. If you want more black or asians on the show, get get all your black and asian friends and tell them to audition. Maybe one of them will have the winning smile that'll make the judges swoon, eh? Jeez! What is ABC trying to pull? THey are trying to make money off of a reality TV show! That's it! How are black people taking away multicutural diversity? There are still more whites at most universities than any other race. How the hell can people ALWAYS be complaining? "Oh look why aren't there any black people there?" "Oh man, look at that stereotype they just did"

Not everyone and everything is racist!

I think you guys are missing the point. It's a TV show. It's not Jeopardy. Nor is it a weekly version of "The Five Things You HAVE to Know to Get a Full-Ride Scholarship."
The three-person admissions committee is observing these kids. They want people who will make a positive contribution to their campuses not just academically, but also socially. All 10 kids are smart enough to get into a lot of colleges. So, the only reason they're testing them is to see how well they fit in and perform in relation to the other nine.
The judges could go eeny-meeny-miney-mo and pick the winner, but instead they ask relatively elementary questions and see how the kids respond.
It's a TV show. These kids obviously were picked because the producers thought they would fit well on TV.
The "spirit" challenge? Admissions people want students who LIKE going to their school and who support the school's activities. If I'm an admissions counselor, I don't want a bump on a log who stays in his/her dorm every Saturday instead of going to the football game.
I like the show. It's not perfect, but I like the premise.

Yes, I watch the show anyway. I STILL think the questions could be a little harder. I mean, come on. Epidermis? v_v...
But if the judges are looking for HOW you answer the questions, Melissa does it with such grace.

On the ABC message boards, people complain about how they are jumping around like monkies (what is the pural of monkey? I know everyone puts 'monkeys' but I swore in the dictionary it says thats wrong O_O). You can only imagine what my reply was. ;)

Stop complaining about the questions. Yes, this is a show with very bright contestants, but it airs on ABC for the GENERAL public to view. This show was not intended for CCer's only. If the show was only directed towards very intelligent kids, ABC would have a minuscule audience. There is no reason to ask about prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells. People would have absolutely no clue about the question. Asking something like "how many chambers does the heart have?", is a fairly difficult question for the AVERAGE Joe. I guarantee if you surveyed a group of people in the US, less then half would know the answer!

(it's five, right?) :)

lmao everyone is human...why wouldn't everyone know that there are 4 chambers in the heart...that's like saying you don't know how many letters in the alphabet there are.

" i am not that they are less intelligent, i mean i have met my share of really smart african americans"

haha this statement made me laugh

"Asking something like "how many chambers does the heart have?", is a fairly difficult question for the AVERAGE Joe. I guarantee if you surveyed a group of people in the US, less then half would know the answer!"

Including, apparently, half the scholars

Icedragon, I don't mean they should be AP questions. I just think they should be a little bit harder. I know the Average Joe can't answer these questions, but the producers should really consider their audience. Its not the average Joe who decides "This show looks cool!" Honestly!

Beauty and the Geek is so much more entertaining. ABC shall follow when they realize we like to boo down random nerds on the tele.

ha ha, now i read it again, it makes me laugh, that's that ESL classes did to me lol

This show is absolutely pointless. If these kids are that smart/talented/in need of money, they should already have scholarships. What i would like to see is kids who have lost their scholarships b/c of excessive driking/partying, video games, after effects of senioritis, apathy, etc, compete to re-win their money by doing humiliating things , which would be absolutely hilarious.
