The Summer SAT Study Thread: Progress for the October SAT

@CHD2013 Just that my math score’s not really moving after all this studying. Trying new procedures are usually recommended when you reach a standstill. And that my math score’s almost there.

This is really late on the thread, but whatever. I’m an incoming junior at a 2060 too! 710 - CR, 710 - Math, 640 - Writing. I need a 2300 on the November SAT and am working really hard for this. A goal I had earlier this summer was to hit 700 on CR, and I did, a 710! :slight_smile: I am hopeful and am trying to read stuff that is similiar to SAT level reading, (i.e. NY Times). Also I reallllly need to work on my essay and get it to a 10/12, AND I always go two -three minutes over in each critical reading section, a habit that I really need to put an end to since I won’t be able to do this during the actual SAT.

Good luck to you all. Practice as much as you possibly can because when school resumes, homework and exams will surely limit your study time!!!

I’ve been traveling for the past 2.5 weeks, and while I did a little bit of studying at the airport, I feel like I’ve fallen pretty behind in my studying.

Loving everyone’s progress though! <3

For the essay, which is one of my weakest points, IS it okay to use just one example? I thought three was the number of examples we were supposed to shoot for, but it seems like there have been a few different opinions on this thread.

Incoming Junior. I got a 190~ on my PSAT and I have been taking SAT practice tests, with my score ranging from 1900-2200. I am trying to solidify my score at 2200 but unfortunately, due to a combination of problems ( like random critical reading topics about weather, history and boring topics I’ve never heard of. Ergonomics anybody?) my score fluctuates like crazy. Hopefully by the end of the summer I can have a consistent 2200.

and to almondjoy, I would say bs 2 examples from personal experience, like saying my friend savannah fought cancer, showed the power and necessity of struggling. from her agonized face I could understand that nothing could be taken for…

basically it’s just coating n’ fluff. As many state, “the longer the better”.

Or just bs that one example so well that it is 2pages. if you can do that, props to you. but 1/2 a page ain’t cutting it, unless you happen to be Shakespeare

Hello everyone! I am an international student and i really need to have a high score on the SAT, i’ve finally scored 2000 in my last 2 pratice tests, but i hope i can progress for the remaining time :slight_smile:
I hope you’re all fine if i join, and good luck to everyone :)

@AlmondJoy7 I say the magic number is 2! One from film/lit and one from history/personal experience. This worked charms for me.

This thread looks really good. Wish I had this when I was studying (back in the day like 6 months ago lol). Anyways, good luck everyone!

Score update for me: on my most recent practice test I only missed 5 questions total, putting my score in the 2260-2400 range (practice test #5). I"m really excited that I didn’t miss a single grid-in math question, as I always mess up on those! I also only missed 1 math problem total, so I’ve ALMOST completely eliminated the “stupid mistake” aspect of that section. I’ve been slowly creeping up from 710’s to the 760-780 range.

Critical reading, I fluctuate between 760-800. I’m trying to get more consistent but usually miss 2-3 a test just because I misread a question or made a dumb mistake. I’m getting there!

Writing, I only miss 1 per test usually. Sometimes I just overthink things and choose an error when there is none; I’m trying to stop overthinking these or purposely choosing an “awkward” answer for the sake of some nonexistent grammatical concern. I’ve been doing well on my essays and consistently getting 800’s on this section.

@lanflan‌ It’s so nice to hear back from you :slight_smile: I’m so glad you’ve improved

@medicsz‌ Thanks! I honestly attribute a lot of it to those resources you told me about-they were SO HELPFUL! I hope you’re progressing well-haven’t heard much about your progress lately!

Anyone have tips for getting good examples for the essay?

Rising Junior shooting for 2300+ too.

Hey have you guys tried the October 2008 SAT
For some reasons, I think it contains the HARDEST passages EVER!!!
The passages are very difficult and the questions are weird (and ridiculously difficult), I have never seen any as hard as it.

Anyway, I have a pdf version of it, do you guys want to try?

I’m a rising junior. I got 218 PSAT last year. My goal is 2300+. I do well on the multiple choice (CR average 66/67, math average 53/54, writing average 48/49, so total ~2360). However, I’m having some trouble when it comes to the essay.

@human997 Use Rocket Review’s strategies for essays. Also, Google search for past 12 essays

@Phongtheha‌ Thanks! I’ll try that!

I have a question about the Blue Book tests. Some friends have told me that they are a bit easier than typical SAT tests. Is that true?

@human997‌ Blue book practice tests are as close as they get to the actual thing, so use them to the best!
Though, practice tests 1, 2, and 3 are actual pre-administered tests from SAT

@medicsz‌ Thanks!

Use past QAS! They are recent past real tests and are more accurate than the Blue Book!

Bump! Anyone want to try the October 2008 SAT with me? If yes, then you can pm me.
