The University of Texas Dorms

If you applied for houing in December, you have a good chance of getting one of your top choices. Housing applications came in much later this year due to the change in how and when housing applications were accepted. We will not know the effects until we begin the room assignment process. Hang in there!

So i was pottering about on the "My Housing" section today and looked at my residence hall preferences that I had set about two months ago after I signed and submitted my contract. I signed up for the Honors Dorms, and under the "update my bath and hall residence choices" it says "You have been accepted into the Honors Living Community. Your room assignment will be in one of the Honors residence halls regardless of your building preferences."
I'm guessing that means I'm in the Honors Quad for sure? Is that even possible, considering they don't start reviewing apps until July, supposedly? I really hope so. :)

Deenz - what honors program are you in?

Business Honors and Plan II.

I got a letter about living in the castilian, it seems cool. Does anyone where it's located on campus and tell me about it?

@Deenz: mine still only says that I have expressed "interest." We have the same majors and I applied to housing around the same time that you did.... Either it's a glitch or you're just that awesome. (Doesn't matter you'd have received priority for a spot as an Honors freshman anyways, but still).

Are you going to the Discover BHP event or are you up for a scholarship interview that weekend?
I'm looking for a roommate.

@rleon3: there are several threads not so far down, most notably Public Service Announcement: Do not stay at The Castilian, all abou that. ;-)

Yeah, I'm going up for Discover BHP. Sorry, I already have a roommate who is a Communications major and but not in Honors which was my main concern in not getting into the Honors dorms. She hasn't sent in her contract yet though. We turned in our housing apps in October, so maybe that has some bearing? I guess I'll just ask when I go up, I intend on taking the optional tour of the Honors dorms afterward.
Anyway, if we're both in Plan II and BHP we're going to be quite good friends I imagine hahaha. :)

It is fine that your roommate is not in honors.

I am looking at staying in Jester or Dobie. Has anyone had bad experiences living in these dorms? I have heard that the management at Dobie does not help students with problems. Does Jester have this same problem?

Thanks!

hmm..I'm now considering living in Brackenridge with a friend next fall
Anyone know how competitive it is?

Thanks in advance~~

considering the dorms around Jester, it shouldn't be too competitive. most people usually fight for moore-hill so I have heard. but considering room/desk size and quite-ness, which is better, brackenridge or prather?

Try The Castilian, Austin, TX, University of Texas, dormitory and residence hall, UT student housing for the best alternative to on-campus living. I live there now and besides San Jac, I think it's the best dorm around.

The Castilian is not considered on campus living. It is near campus. The Castilian is not associated or operated by the University of Texas at Austin.

And I have to warn people here that longhorndude has been actively promoting The Castillian lately for some unknown reason. So take his advice with a grain of salt.

I have a question about the honors dorms. Is there space for all of the honors students who want to live in the honors dorms? My son put down his deposit in January, I believe, but the last time he checked it still said he had requested honors housing (but there was no assignment yet).

your son will most likely will get a spot in the honors dorms. as for assignments, UT housing will begin to pair up roommates and housing at the beginning of July (July 1st is the last day to select your housing preferences). according to their website, they should begin distributing our dorm assignments and roommate information around mid-July.

Thanks, Henry.

Wait I have a question. I didnt sign up/apply for the Honors program but i really want to stay in the Honors dorm preferably (im really grade conscious/focused and i feel that theres some good influences in the Honors quad) , do you think if i submit a letter stating my desire and reasons why i want to dorm in the Honors quad that it will increase my chances of getting a room in the honors quad? I submitted my housing deposit in Jan 09 so do i get my preference ?

That is correct – the Castilian is a private, off-campus housing facility (primarily freshmen) from my experience and is directly across the street from the center of the UT campus. I live there now, and have a desire to work with them next year but for right now they don’t have any openings. I can’t say enough good things about them and they are absolutely the best ALTERNATIVE to what you’ll find on campus. If you want someplace that’s clean, fun, safe and has good food you might want to check them out.

lonhorndude, if they are not paying you, they should be. Glad you like The Castilian. :D
