The University of Texas Dorms

iambored10: yes, UT also accepts people to dorm in the honors dorms even if they’re not in honors. you just need to prove that you are academically capable and a letter might do the trick.

henryj223 - only if there is room after all the honors kids who requested honors housing have been placed in honors dorms - i would not suggest that anyone count on this

iambored, I have also heard that if you request to room with someone staying in the honors dorm then you have a good chance of staying there. Maybe find someone who’s going to UT who’s in one of the honors programs.

How hard is it to get a dorm with a private bath in Jester? I don’t want a community bath at all so what other options are there? I know San Jacinto has private baths but I heard that Jester also has some on the upper floors. How do we choose that we want a private bath or is it just what you get? I clicked Yes I am interested in a private/shared bathroom on the Housing Preferences page.

Jester has some connecting baths. When you update your housing choices look for:
“If available, are you interested in having a connecting or private bathroom?
(NOTE: Additional $250 per semester) and choose:” Yes, I’d be interested.

Yeah I selected that option, but is there anyway to guarantee that I get a connecting or private bathroom?

^short answer: no

no indeed, it all depends on how early you get that housing app paid and turned in.

wait im so confused. is the preference of getting a room/a certain amenity dependent on the contract or the $50 housing form?

priority is entirely based on when you turn in the $50 housing form. the contract is finalized on July 1st for everyone.

Hi guys iam entirely new to this website and have a few questions to ask about the dorm.

I got accepted to Ut Business awhile ago, but still havent payed the 50 dollars housing money. Do you guys think that will effect me getting in to Jester, or getting a ideal roommate. And I havent see much post about Dobie, What you guys think about Dobie, the off camp dorm? Last question, does anyone have a price list for all the dorm? I think price is my main concern. Thanks

price list: [Division of Housing and Food Service - Prices](<a href=“UHD Homepage | University Housing and Dining”>UHD Homepage | University Housing and Dining)

so… Shared space with community bath $7,881 applies to jester?

yes, jester is all shared space with community bath. the dorms in the honors quad are also shared space with community bath.

midwestmom2kids
Do you know anything about Dobie, I also heard it is too late for castilian, is it true?

and Is it too late for Jester too? dang I really wanted to live in jester =[

I think you still have a good chance at Jester. Pay your $50 deposit now. Then, if you have not already done so, pay the enrollment deposit that says you are coming to UT. Then you will get your housing contract.

I think the housing contract will say you are offered a room, and I think the room is likely to be in Jester. If it says you are offered “supplemental housing” then you might end up somewhere else. (I think it is too early for UT Housing to start sending out the “supplemental housing” contracts that are the best clue to us that it looks like Jester is full.)

I think you should try to get a room on campus in Jester. Just specify that it is your first choice. It is still early enough that I really think you have a chance, but acting now rather than May 1 will help - some people may not do their initial $50 deposits til they have decided for sure where they are going. I have found that the UT Housing people are good about answering emails, too.

Dobie and The Castilian are fine but I really think on campus is better. (It is not too late to sign up to live in The Castilian.)

RiceUp, It’s not too late for the Castilian or Dobie – both have rooms available I am sure as both keep taking apps until June or so I believe. I would recommend both over Jester but you’ll see from my posts that I’m partial to The Castilian where I live right now. I believe you can contact the dorm on their website.

I wish UT Housing would pipe in here. The best way to get “definitely true this year” information on any of this is to call or email the housing office directly. :)

Thanks guys.

I payed my 200 enrollment fee around feb. I called Jester west, Dobie, and Castilian. They all told me they have like few rooms left and its is felling up quickly. I really wanted to stay at Jester as it is more convienent. Do you guys think I should apply for Jester and the 2 off campus housing? , in case Jester is full. But I won’t know if Jester will guarantee me a spot til July… and by then, both Dobie and Castilian would be full.

What yall think I should do…ahh
