The University of Texas Dorms

This might be kind of a wierd question, but are there any particular dorms that have a large population of Asians? I've never really been around many Asians cause my school doesn't have too many so I want to get to know more.

(I'm Asian btw)

Jester is the Asian dorm period.

Yeah I would have to agree with Foxshox. If you're looking for where the majority of Asian students dorm-wise, that would have to be Jester.

cool thanks

So most of the Indian (from India) people live in Jester? If so, that's nice to know as I may end up in Jester. I am an Indian by the way if you couldn't tell by the name lol.

Basically, if they aren't instate, they will more than likely live in Jester because most people don't know the rules if they are OOS.

I applied last year for San Jacinto at 6am the first day and I still didn't get it. It's pretty much a draw when it comes to San Jac.

Housing actually gave me my third preference, but eventually offered me my second preference (Duren) a couple weeks before classes started. I know several of people who were actually offered/upgraded to stay in Duren. I think he location is definitely a huge factor in the reason why they still had rooms open.

I live in Duren now and it definitely is nice (I mean the rate explains it). The location isn't THAT bad honestly, it has its perks - literally on the drag & close to West Campus parties. I definitely was/am a strong advocate for San Jac purely because of its location (in comparison to Duren). Butttttt, I still don't know if I would relocate to San Jac, if offered, for next year.

I can't believe anyone lives on campus for more than a year. The prices are so utterly ridiculous, especially given that you have no room what so ever.

I know Jester is known for being loud, but how?

are people always hanging out in the hallways going crazy with loud music on? do people have parties in their dorm rooms or what? (are you even allowed to have parties in your room?)

duren has really high ceilings

Technically you can't have parties if they are loud or if alcohol is being consumed by underage students. It also depends on your RA, but technically no parties are allowed (especially since guest hours are enforced in most dorms).

Duren only has high ceilings on the first floor, other than that the other floors have probably have the height (if not more) of first floor's.

so i looking at prather, brackenridge, roberts, and moore-hill as my dorm choices. are there any differences that makes one better than the other? i'm looking for good studying conditions, convenience, and a friendly community. and is it just me, or do the desks in the dorms look extremely small?

Okay this is mildly urgent, but is it necessary to actually mail the housing contract or is there a way to do it online? Mine is due on the Wednesday and I totally thought you could accept in online. But I can't seem to do find a way to do that. I could be in trouble then, because they need to actually receive it by the due date and I haven't sent it yet...

You can accept it and pay for it online. My son got an email with a link to accept the contract and to pay.

I paid but I cannot find a place to just accept it. I can only "view printable contract" or "cancel contract." Do you think a postmark by the 21st will be enough?

Does anyone know if Duren is full? If i pay my housing deposit right now, can i gurantee a spot in Duren or can i at least choose duren?

^Deenz, you may have already accepted it.

If you go to https://utdirect.utexas.edu/hfis/index.WBX while logged into your eid, it should say

"You have an active Fall housing contract, paid and accepted. We look forward to having you with us this Fall! "

If not, the link the accept it is pretty clear, if I remember right. Or maybe you have to view first to accept it?

hah I had my own contract drama when I accidently cancelled mine after a freak out about the refund-ability of the fee. But the housing office was really nice and re-offered me one!

Deenz, I printed out the housing contract, filled it out, scanned it back into the computer, and emailed it to the housing office.

is the housing contract the $50 fee? or the $200 dollar one?
