We paid two fees. One was $50, when S first applied, I believe. The second was $300 and was paid today with the contract.

Nope no message like that. Weird. It's so strange. I just scanned it and sent it to them via email. I'll also send it overnight by mail tomorrow so hopefully that will suffice. I think it may have something to do with the fact that I'm not 18 yet? Hm.

Deenz, I wasn't 18 either when I emailed my contract to them. but those who are under 18 need that second signature on the bottom of the contract. but when i emailed my contract (as a pdf file), they told me that they got it the next day. oh, and check to make sure you send it to housing@austin.utexas.edu

I Hope UT, housing contract is $50. the $200 one is the enrollment deposit

Ok cool. I paid that in November so that basically reserved my choice of a dorm I'm guessing...

yea. however, i'm not sure whether how housing priority works. is it the first ones who pays gets first choice, or is it whenever you change your dorm selections, you get bumped down to the bottom of the priority list? the first seems the most reasonable but you never know.

Hey guys, I am going to be a transfer student, coming in as a sophomore. I am pretty sure I will get in to at least my 2nd choice major Liberal Arts(4.0 GPA right now).

There is this issue of how I will fit in at some of these dorms. Where do most freshman live? I'll be a sophomore so I don't know how that will affect making new friends. I just don't know if freshman only want to be friends with freshman, and sophomores already have friends and don't want new ones?

IDK, I'm not shy and am pretty talkative, I'll usually have a lot of acquaintances within 1 or 2 days of regular classes. I just don't want to live in a dorm that has people that aren't that outgoing, and maybe think that they don't need any new friends.

On one end, freshman go in looking to make friends, but perhaps only with fellow freshman.

Sophomores already have friends, and might not be that interested in new ones.

Which place is the best for me?

I have a friend who's son started this year as a sophomore. He is living in Duran and has made many friends.

I think you can join a fig in Duran and Whiltis dorms.

If you are in an honors program, there are definitely sophomores in the honors quad dorms. And yes, there is intermingling between the freshmen and the sophomores.

As AMom2 said, there are FIGs for transfer students, too. They are called TRIGs.

Don't worry, even if you don't like hanging out with freshmen, there are a good number of new first year sophomores each year, especially because of the CAP program.

Does Duran typically get full? Like the ONLY reason i will go to UT Austin is if i get a room that is a single/private in either Duran or somewhere else. Do you think i can still get a room in Duran?

I'm reading about deadlines (!!!). Son is from NJ & we are just figuring out all this housing stuff. He's applying online today ($50 & $200 deposits) but did he miss a deadline this week?
Thanks!!

If he is a first year student, he did not miss a deadline. He should apply for housing as soon as possible and put in the $50 housing deposit. The day you do this marks your housing priority day.

Thanks, MidwestMom2Kids.

Ugh, just checked his status -- he'd applied for Comp Sci honors a few months ago & was denied. Didn't check his app for general honors--seems we missed the 1/15 deadline. Not sure if they'd consider something late (only missing the recs).

I've copied all the info on this site re: housing & have no clue where son would like to go or where would be best. So many conflicting perspectives!!

At least the housing is in. Guess we have to do $200 deposit to get in line for specific housing? Sorry to be remedial.

His spot in line for housing is set.

Next, if he has not already done so, he needs to pay the admission deposit to confirm he is coming to UT in the fall.

Then he will get a housing contract.

Then he signs it and does the housing deposit.

Then he will be able to rank his top 3 choices of dorm on line.

This is great information, thanks a bunch.

I'm trying to transfer there and if I get in I'll defiantly try San Jacinto.

Thanks, MidwestMom2Kids, appreciate!

All on campus dorms are overpriced, San Jac and Duren in particular.

You get a much better value living in an apartment than in a dorm.

what percentage of San Jac is freshmen? I don't want to get stuck with an upperclassmen..(is that even possible)

Um, I feel really stupid asking this, and I feel the answer is yes, but am I screwed if I haven't applied for housing yet???? I'm an incoming freshmen, and have not submitted my enrollment deposit to UT b/c out of the nine colleges I've applied UT is the only one I've been accepted and I really want to make the decision about what college I'll go to based on the financial aid package they give me. However, I think acceptance letters and aid packages won't come till april.
So I want to know do I have to have accepted enrollment and put in my deposit to start applying for housing???
I'm pre-journalism so I'm wondering if anyone knows what dorms are near the school of communications?
Also, I want to know which dorm would be good for a freshmen, and on the cheaper side. I don't feel like paying the extra money for san jacinto or the others. About Jester, I don't mind noise, (I can tune it out if I need to) but I'm on the shy side and I believe in another post someone said you need to be really sociable to survive???
Personally, I really think I'm gonna go to UT, it's a great school, I'll pay in-state tuition, and I know people there. So I'm thinking I really need to get myself together for this.

"you need to be really sociable to survive"

is that really true?

btw, how do you quote people?
