I ended high school with a 1.7 GPA and a 17 ACT. I currently have 38 credits at a local CC, and I have a 3.8 GPA. This semester, I’m taking 16 credits.
Would Umich take my high school into account even if I apply with under the preferred 57 credits?
Your high school record would carry little to no weight considering the fact that you took 50+ credits by the time they make their decision.
You definitely should apply. Same story here, except I ended up dropping out middle of High School senior year. I will graduate with my Bachelors in Computer Science from CoE at Umich this December.
I had a 2.7 in high school and a 23 ACT. I applied to Umich with a 3.7 community college and 30 ACT and got in. I was advised not to retake the ACT because it wouldn’t matter, but I did it anyway. If I were you, I probably would, too. Things have changed since I applied back in 2008, but at the time I wrote a supplementary essay explaining the discrepancy between my high school and college performance, and why there was no reason to believe I wouldn’t be prepared for the curriculum at UofM.
That said, while I did well at umich, I didn’t graduate with a 3.7. Sometimes I wonder if maybe it was too hard for me even if I did get in. I would have done great going part time but couldn’t afford to stay in school that long. I would consider how rigorous your CC really is and if you’re sure you can handle the curriculum at Michigan.
Is that with junior status?
