This Job thing...

I am so stressed, and afraid that I won't get a job this summer. I have applied to Target, Forever 21, DSW, TJ Max, Nordstrom, Staples, my local pool concession stand, and Barnes and Nobles. The only place that has written me back is Nordstrom, and they said no. I knew i wasn't get a job there but summer is getting very close and I'm getting scared that I won't get a job. I've called these places a million times, and they all say the same thing that they're still looking at the applications. Where else can a 16 year old apply???I need money, and I need a job. Please don't say volunteer because I do enough of that. I need a JOB! Help me !!!!!!

Mickey D's or the local theme park :)

Become a tutor?

yes theme parks are always good. plus, they'll work you like 80 hrs/wk b/c most don't have to worry about paying time and a half for OT...sounds good to me. gas stations always need employees it seems? any in your area?...pumping gas or selling lottery tickets would be fun.

CALL them if you've gotten no response. "Hey, this is blah, just calling to check to ensure that you got the application I submitted about a week ago" etc etc, call back and ask if an interview can be set up, call and ask what the next step toward getting hired would be. Ask if they have openings in other depts, etc.

Honestly, many of those people have no time to look over like 15 or 20 or however many applications. they will jsut choose you if you call at the right time.

Thats the only way I've ever gotten a job.

What's the minimum working age in the U.S.? (Like to work at McDonald's or something) lol You can get a job when you're 14 at Tim Horton's (In Canada).

Min is $6.15 in Nj, going to 7.15 this october, but it varies by state

14 during the summer, 16 year-round

Huh, I'm probably going to work at a laundromat on the Blackfeet Indian reservation right across the street from a bar. Will be the only white employee too. But I did it last summer, so it'll be good

Minimum wage in Michigan is only $5.15!

lol just like PA...but it's supposed to go up to $7.20 or so next year. We'll see if that happens.

Ohiogirl: go to your local movie theatre. Movie theatre's are always hiring.

seriously, you just have to show interest in the desired position, if you bother them long enough (call, stop in to see the manager/hiring manager), they will prob. set you up with an interview.

also
Do your friends work anywhere? try where they work

The summer that I was 16, I was desperate for a job and waited too long to try and search for one ,so I worked at Wal-Mart. Not too glamorous, but they actually paid fairly well (compared to other places), always gave me great, consistant hours and they are a place that is ALWAYS hiring cashiers. And I quit when school started again, so it worked out.

min wage here is like 7 bucks...hollerrr

I suggest local ice cream places and restaurants....try not to apply at chains....harder to get jobs there.

The high min wage keeps unskilled teenagers priced out of the job market. I would prefer to work for $4 an hour then to be unemployed.

I'll probably be working at Primerica Financial Services...got the job through someone I know...I'll get to choose my own hours and pay...and get to choose which clients I want to see...

but maybe you should lower your standards a bit...lol...try your local grocery store or fast food restaurant

how old are you bluthunder

I work as a hostess at Olive Garden and I make $6.50/hour. It's an awesome job, with really flexible hours. Restaraunts like that are ALWAYS hiring because people are ALWAYS quitting, seeing as how working in a restaraunt is usually a transistional job. Try someplace like that!
