thoughts on SAT retake?

i'm planning on applying ED to NU and right now i'm signed up to take the SATs in the fall for the second time so i can raise my writing score and hopefully get a 2200+. is this worth my time or should i stick with my current score? i dont think taking it twice is such a bad thing, but i've been told otherwise...thanks!

current composite: 2190
V: 700
M: 760
W: 730, essay 10

If you're sure you'll improve overall it will help. However, they do not superscore, so if you end up going down on some sections but up on others, they're looking at the best total score, not the best combined.

arbiter213,

I've always just assumed all privates, including NU, superscore. Did NU adcom tell you otherwise?

theres no point in retaking it. SATs really dont count for a whole lot. and arbiter, thats not true.

Relevant quote (emphasis mine):

word for word in their email to me:
"In regards to your question, we take the
highest composite score in a single sitting, but we do not ignore any
other scores you may submit."

hey thanks for your help! i'll reconsider now, for sure

one other unrelated question though...is it very difficult to transfer into medill from wcas? what are the transfer rates?

your SAT score is fine. excellent, actually. retaking it won't hurt you but you're certainly approaching the level of diminishing marginal returns for your time.

I wouldn't say it's very easy. I know a friend who tried to trasnfer into Medill from WCAS and they were denied several times before ultimately getting accepted. I think people have to actually drop out of Medill before they let anyone new in.

^^ sorry. i read that backwards. i thought it read "transfer into wcas from medill.

transfers TO medill are, in fact, difficult.

medill needs to keep their enrollment at or below a certain level to remain certified as a journalism school, so they can only accept however many students transferred out, like you said.
