Thread for all Juniors/Sophomores

junior! high sat, ok gpa, v.hard classes, good ec's... you know. so far my college list looks like:

northeastern, university of delaware, tulane, university of maryland, ucsb, wake forest, gwu, scripps, ucsd, berkeley, bc, uva, barnard, claremont mckenna, emory, gtown, ucla, brown, columbia, duke, and pomona.

a pretty long list haha

Haha I love how long everyone's lists are! It's funny to see 15, 20... even 30 schools that range everywhere on the spectrum from U of the Pacific to Carleton to U of Alaska to Tulane. For me at least, it's really difficult to find colleges that match all the wanted criteria (good locale, party scene, academics, reputation, and other specifics)—moreover I find myself liking different schools for one or two "special" qualities that I'd probably love about the school (Amherst's ideal class size and cute college town; Georgetown's DC proximity and career network; Pomona's weather and college consortium), and not finding the WHOLE package (GTown's probably the closest I've found, and thus is my first choice right now).

In terms of college websites I like Students' Review . com (didn't want that to be asterisk-ed out), even though it has a lot of flakey reviews that I just ignore, I like its super personal touch. Princeton Review is good for quick facts and finding information about schools you don't know much about. I also have a couple big books like US News and College Pr0wler (haha), but I've actually already read a large majority of the descriptions in both and thus find myself turning to the internet (especially CC) more than anything.

Speaking of Class of 2010 pride, I'm kind of considering running for a small office (VP of senior class, or maybe senator)... anyone have any good mottos or things that rhyme with 2010 or even "themes"? That sounds silly, but this year the seniors used the theme of Ninesty (instead of Dynasty), wore crowns, and wrote Nine-sty (for class of '09) all over their cars. I like the idea of making shirts that say SEN'10RS, with the '10 in a different color, but am having a hard time thinking of anything else kitschy or catchy. Regardless, 2010 is definitely the best grad year...ever :)

I wish I had been this involved in the college process when I was a junior..I didn't even start thinking about college until November of my senior year...yeah I know.

My list is pretty damn long too. Tulane, Uchicago, uconn, bates, grinnell, villanova, colgate, conn college, holy cross, Boston u, Boston college, northeastern, union haha

Ah, I am so happy! Major bump to keep this great discussion going. =]
It's so great to see all the college-obsessed non-seniors.

Copied from thread I made a thread a while ago on this forum:

I'm a junior, an upper-middle class white female from a Plains state.

My stats:

GPA: 4.0 UW, most challenging courseload school offers (several AP's this year and more next year, including self-studying and correspondence).
Class rank: Currently valedictorian in midsized, mediocre public school (~200 kids/class).
SAT: 2220: 800 CR, 780 W (11 essay), 640 (!!!) M (obviously my weak spot)
ECs/Awards: Good, but not earth-shattering: Several regional writing awards, EIC of school paper, band section leader, 300+ volunteer hours, probable NMSF, part-time job. I'm trying to get more recognition for my writing.
College major: English (I want to become a writer.)

Places considering: Dartmouth and Yale (first choices), Brown, Princeton, Northwestern-Medill, Rochester, W&L (parents now insist that I apply for Johnson Scholarship after reading viewbook), Colgate, Georgetown, Middlebury, UNL (IS safety), JHU (?), Rice, Pomona, Duke, Vandy, Wake Forest, etc.

I will retake the SAT in May to improve my math section.

My parents (especially my father) don't really believe in college visits, so I'm struggling against that problem right now. Otherwise, I'm so excited for this whole process!

I'm a junior at a private school
GPA 3.7/4.0
SAT:taking in January
All honors and AP courses, blah blah
have a job in the before and after school program at the YMCA
Mock Trial

Brain Game Team (I was on local TV!)

get ready for the long list!

Georgetown, UVA, William and Mary, Vanderbilt, Wake Forest- "dream ones"
Fordham, Villanova, University of Miami (FL and OH), St. Louis University, Elon, UPitt, Case Western, Pepperdine, Tulane- "safeties" or places where I hope I can get some scholarships so I don't have to go to State U.

Great posts =] This is so much fun!

I think it's time to bumpitybump.

STATS:
SCHOOL: Public one in West Tennessee, I love it.

AWARDS:
- 16th in the nation, National French Exam (to the one who made 5th: WOW! Teach me your ways.)
- French Honor Society
- All-region music awards out a wazoo or two.

BONUSES/HOOKS:
- I have a creative major, and I'm talented as anything at music.

SCHOOLS (kind of in order of interest):
University of Georgia, U of Alabama, and East Carolina University. Bama and ECU are painless [for me] to get into, and UGA is getting more competitive with each day. The point is that they have decent to good music programs, I can get into an honors program anywhere.

I'VE VISITED:
0. But I'm visiting Bama in February!

I love looking up colleges while the process isn't too stressful. I used CollegeBoard to narrow it down, mostly, among other things like Princeton's Review (although I don't take their lists too seriously, to be honest). U.nigo, S.tudentsReview, and College P.rowler (ah, censors) have been really helpful. I found this site after searching for reviews. Another tip: Look at the Facebook groups for your school's class of 2013. It's pretty interesting to see, and on some, current students answer questions for the future ones.
My major: music therapy, at the moment. It's a really interesting field, you should message me if you're interested. Or doctoring, I'm completely torn between the two. I play the saxophone, and it's my passion. =} But I also love the human body and its functions and whatnot.

Something that's really cool, I think: South or West or Midwest. If you're in a special program (for me, that's music therapy) that's not offered in your state, but in surrounding ones, you can go to the surrounding one while paying in-state fees (for me, that's about 6k). It just applies to public U's, but I thought that was pretty interesting when I first saw it, and am hyped that I get to do that cause it saves me a lot of tuition stress from my parents.
I so love this site.

^ WHOA! I play sax too! And I'm considering something along the lines of music therapy! :)
Coooooool stuff.

Music therapy sounds amazing! It's definitely a career (along with art therapy) that more people should pursue. From experience I found Music & Art Therapy helpful. So, props to that!
