Three SAT II's

Northwestern "recommends" that all applicants take three SAT tests. I was thinking about taking only two, math IIC and physics, in October and possibly apply early to Northwestern. Will this affect my chances?

u really should take writing; with the new sat, almost everyone will have a score in writing

I've taken the new SAT. I didn't know that the writing section in the new SAT counted as one of the subject tests... does it?

I don't know about that, but I do know almost everyone I knew took the writing SAT II.

they're removing the writing sat ii, that's what i heard at least. so you will no longer have to take it.

personally, i would just take three subject tests, but i doubt taking only 2 will hurt you.. but taking 3 prolly wont either... i took... 4? i took chem, math, and writing.. didnt study at all, did horrible in chem and writing.. took it a second time, with bio, writing, and language (the reading one poetry stuff).. those scores were better than the first, except for math..

i had planned on taking three sat II's in october like you (last year) but i decided not too, applied early, and got in. it depends on what you have already. in my case, my sat II scores would not reveal anything new about my abilities, so i decided against it and spent some more time on my essay instead.

Well, my AP physics and calc grades suffered, so I was planning to take SAT II's to show that I CAN do physics and calculus. I would like to take three, but I don't know what other subject test to take..! Senioritis, you didn't take ANY sat II's??

do either literature or a language

so if I was hoping to get into medill, what sat IIs do you think they would most like me to take?

Literature or a language? Are you hinting at a linguistical subject? It really doesn't matter what you take. If you want to be a doctor, it makes sense for you to take bio and chem, but nobody is going to hold it against you if you don't.

I would take three SAT II's in the subjects that I'm strongest in. I wouldn't risk getting bad scores.

no i didn't take any, i had a 1400 and a 4.0 so i figured that should cover the stats part. but i felt like my essays were good. basically if i had taken math i would have gotten above 750, writing, about 700 and physics, maybe 700-750. but i had already proven that i knew those areas with my grades. i guess thats what the admissions committee thought too :)

more than half the kids with 1400s+ get rejected. i didn't feel confident with my score, even though it was above the average--but not a 1600.

take whatever tests you feel you're strong at and wouldn't mind taking. commit to activities you actually like, it'll show, hopefully.

i decided on the day of that i was going to take literature, and i did fairly well on it. didn't use any of those study books or vocab builders or whatever. so if you're a pretty decent reader and can interpet some simple readings, i would suggest taking that in place of writing since it will be removed.

bio is also fairly easy. math 2c if you're good with math, i got 780 without studying old formulas and whatnot..

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone~ I think I'm going to take two SAT II's because I'm a wimp and don't want to risk getting a bad score... unless someone comes up to me between now and October, proves that senioritis is wrong, and says that taking three SAT II's makes a SIGNIFICANT difference.

I never sent SAT-II scores, i sent my ACT scores. I was accepted into medill.... dont worry too much.

lol, good luck proving me wrong, considering i was accepted ;)
