Basically I am an incoming freshman putting the last touches on my schedule and I am unsure if taking consecutive classes in different buildings is possible at Colgate. With only 10 minutes between blocks, will having consecutive classes cause me any problems? What about 3 consecutive classes? All help is appreciated...

Most of Colgate classes are on The Hill where the academic buildings are about two minutes apart – right next to each other. Some science classes are at the far end of the campus which is an extra minute or two, maybe, and Fine Arts classes are the other way another couple of minutes. It’s a pretty compact campus. You could walk from the northernmost academic building to the southernmost in a leisurely 10 minutes and still have tiime to chat with a few friends on the way . . . while sipping a double latte and reviewing for your test. It’s a small college, after all. We’re not talking Michigan State here! You’ll have no trouble getting to your next class. After all 2800 Colgate students do this every day. In fact, for first year students, since all freshman dorms are on The Hill right next to most of the academic buildings, you can pretty much just roll out of bed and be in the classroom in about 5 minutes. Not that you’d actually want to skip breakfast or a shower, but you could do it. In a blizzard, that’s actually kind of nice. Just joking about the blizzard! Congratulations on going to Colgate!!! Amazing school. I attended in the 1960s when there were somewhat fewer buildings and now my daughter is a sophomore. Think WOMEN’S RUGBY!! Grrr!

What buildings are you looking at? Normally it would be absolutely no problem, but it’s possible you’ll have to scramble up a massive hill.

That’s the only problem I think it would cause, consecutive classes are no big deal at Colgate.

Are you serious, ColgateDad? I never had the time to do all of that, walking from the Coop to Alumni Hall or down to Dana! Maybe I’m just a real slowpoke when it comes to walk but there are those stairs that one must climb up/down (carefully outdoors in the cold!). (I’m pretty fit)

Doing 3 classes back to back is quite tough mentally and people have told me that after one semester, they never want to do it again. But of course, if you’re going to be pre-med, you won’t have much of a choice anyway.

Sometimes I think 10 minutes is pushing it if you want to get a good seat in a lecture hall.

As long as your classes are all up the hill, 3 back to back isn’t that bad - I actually liked having all my classes together rather than an hour between classes because then my afternoons were wide open. If you have to get to/from Little or Dana for art/music classes, then it you probably have to hurry to/from Olin or Ho, but it’s not so bad that you shouldn’t take a course just because it’s on the other side of campus.
