Tips on getting into Georgetown

Hi everyone,

I’m a rising senior who will be applying to schools in the fall. Georgetown is my top choice, and I am looking for advice regarding anything particular that Georgetown looks for in its applicants. Also, what do you think my chances are? Thanks.

GPA: 3.875UW || 4.23W
ACT: Composite 34 || Math 36/Eng 35/Sci 33/Read 30
Extracurriculars: a lot
Leadership: started politics club junior year, varsity tennis captain, run soccer refereeing program in my town
Awards: every honor roll possible, made it to DECA nationals, debate awards, NHS, passion award in 8th grade

I have some other stuff, but I’m not gonna list it because it’s not super important.

Thanks a lot.

Hi! I’m a rising sophomore in the NHS and your stats look pretty close to mine when I applied last fall. You’re well in the ballpark for competitive applicants. But make sure you wow them with essays because that’s the only thing that can set you apart. Put on some blinders and show (not just tell) what you’re passionate about. If possible, tie your essays together with a common theme (community service, international affairs, being a doctor, etc) Good luck.

The interview is also a good place to show your passion. Every Georgetown applicant is required to have an interview, and when I had mine, my interviewer and I had a really good conversation. To what extent that influenced my acceptance, I can’t tell you, but it definitely helped.

Make sure you take and submit 3 SAT subject tests. G’town likes to see those

Do some research on the school and be able to articulate, in both your essays and the interview, a compelling answer to the question “Why Georgetown?”
