Does anyone know what the curruiculum consists of at the summer film school at tisch and how is the housing situattion handled? Roomates…bathrooms etc.

[Narrative: Tisch School of the Arts at NYU](<a href=“Special Programs”>Special Programs) - this is the most I’ve ever came across regarding the actual curriculum.

Have you heard anything back from the program since the confirmation deadline. I never got a confirmation saying they received mine ( I don’t know if they even send one) so Im a little worried, and I have no clue about the housing situation either.

um since the dead line actually no but I sent in my confirmation the day after I recived the notification that I was accepted. They said that they are doing confirmations on a rolling basis so if its not in soon another student can take your spot. On the confirmation it says that it was due on April 13. But kids are saying that its due before April 24. ACTUALLY the confirmation is due on the 13 and the money is due by the 24th of April. I called a couple of weeks ago and they told me that they have mine and im all set. But I want some more information though regarding my scholorship, and information etc. And that hasant come in yet so im waiting. But call them to see if they recived your mail in confirmation.

Will do. I sent my in the day after I got my confirmation too, and then I faxed it as well after I started thinking about all the things that could wrong with the mail.
Would you know if they provide someone to meet you at the airport, because my parents want to go ahead and buy the ticket before the prices rise in may, but they’re also freaked out about me being alone at JFK. So they want to know if they need to buy a ticket just make sure Im not the next law and order story. So I guess I will be making a phone call.
If any of this info would be valuable to you too let me know and I will post it.

actually my parents are doing the same now! lol but um, no they dont provide someone to meet us at the airport we have to make our way too the school and meet with them, thats why they said that we need to pay for airfare and getting to the site a.k.a. Taxi Cab or via Subway. but my parents are gonna drop me off at the site and stay with relatives in NYC so i dnt have to do it alone.

P.S. Laguradia is FAR less busy than JFK.

j.m.j. I looked again at the confirmation and acceptance letter and couldn’t see any mention of April 13 as a deadline, it seemed like the deadline for the confirmation AND the deposit was April 24. Am I missing something? Also, for those who did send in their confirmations and have already received their packets, does it give more detailed information? Specifically, I am interested in the residence hall that will house the kids who are doing the Tisch CAP 21 summer program. Also, do all the kids at all the Tisch programs live in the same dorm this summer, and do they do activities together, such as attending shows, museums, etc? And do the non audition kids see much of the audition CAP 21 kids. My D knows two kids who will be in the audition program but she will be attending the non audition, Tisch CAP 21 program. Any answers would be deeply appreciated. Thanks!

oops, I just read that jmj is doing film, probably different deadlines than for theatre…

yes i sent in my conformation weeks ago and I confirmed with them that they have recived it but I havent recived a packet. WIll a packet be coming in soon?

I talked to the school today and guy said more information should be coming soon, but it will be sent via email.

can anyone speak on thier experience at Tisch during the summer and how well you applied to it?

I’d love to hear a response from j.m.j.'s question, but in the meantime, I have another. Has anybody in the CAP 21 or other acting studio programs gotten any information, e mail or otherwise? I know it’s still early, but I’d love to know details about drop off and what to bring, etc., it would make planning easier.

um I contacted one of the admins thru facebook and the said that the first week of may we should get an email or sometime soon.

yeah, I got into the dramatic writing program and I received an email saying my confirmation and deposit was received but I have yet to get anything else, should I be worried?

Is anyone else getting annoyed that we haven’t heard anything from Tisch? Does anyone have any information, I keep forgetting to call and when I remember their office is closed with the time difference.

I was wondering if anyone knew what my D should expect for the CAP 21 program. Last year when she did the CMU pre-college program she was sent a lot of information about placement tests and what to bring to work on with regards to monologues and songs. Also, I believe a schedule. We have only received housing information, not much at all in terms of class work.
If any past students of parents of students have any information about this, my D and would be most appreciative. Thanks!
Also,I posted a question a while ago that I never received a response from regarding contact between CAP 21 summer kids and Tisch CAP 21 summer kids and would still like to know if anybody knows much about that.

HSN - there is no contact whatsoever between the CAP21 summer kids and the Tisch CAP21 summer kids. They have very different schedules, especially in the evenings, where the Tisch kids go on “controlled outings”. The Tisch kids also have quite a bit of homework for their non conservatory classes, and tend to be quite busy at night. The first day of class both programs have “placement classes”.

MTgrlsmom, maybe I’m being dense but, the kids wouldn’t even see each other at the studio during the day and/or take any classes together? I understand they wouldn’t see each other at night. And do you happen to know if the placement auditions are for dance and singing or just dance? Should she be preparing songs and monologues—do they expect the kids to come in with some? Thanks.

HSN, no you are not being “dense” at all :D, I was rushing out the door and my post was far from complete. The Tisch CAP kids take all their classes at the Tisch building, whereas the CAP kids take class at CAP’s facility. That explains why they don’t see each other. The placement is primarily based on dance ability. Depending on the total number of participants, there will likely be three groups. They don’t really need to prepare anything per se, but they will be asked to sing a song their first day, and so it helps if they have a song that they are already comfortable with. Singing in front of a group of talented peers can be quite intimidating to some. In Acting class, everyone will be handed material to work on, and so having a monologue “ready to go” is not really necessary.

Re: CAP21 program - Hah, last summer I was so dense we chose a summer apartment near NYU for my D and then found out classes were at the 18th street CAP studio! Fortunately still a short walk. There were four groups of 16 and they did dance placement and sang/did a monologue the first day. We didn’t get a lot of materials before the program started, maybe a letter. I think some of the CAP21 kids got together on Facebook and arranged to meet each other the day before the program started, perhaps in Union Square Park it was. And MTgrlsmom is right they don’t really run into the Tisch kids. The CAP21 kids who are not commuters end up hanging out together on evenings and weekends and going to LOTS of shows with student rush tickets. Big recommendation - make sure your S/D brings a high school i.d. in order to get the student rush tickets. My D didn’t have hers and it was a hassle (driver’s license didn’t work and CAP21 doesn’t give any kind of i.d. card).

HSN - I am not sure which program your D is doing, the one through Tisch, or the one through CAP directly, but Tisch’s program is about half the size of CAP’s. Three groups at Tisch means that there are approx. 10 - 12 students per group.

If your D is doing the program through Tisch, she should have received the CAP21 guidelines by email by now (with the daily schedule, and a general calendar for the duration of the program, including what shows they will be seeing etc.), and information on what to bring for class. My guess is that someone has also created a Facebook group. If she has not joined yet, your D may want to check this out, as she can get to know the other students she will be working with, and it is an easy way to stay on top of things as they keep each other updated when they receive pertinent information.
