UCLA was always my first choice. first time i visited the campus i was stoked cuz it was so freakishly big and from what i saw, the social life there was amazing.

but, of course, ***** happened and i got rejected.

UCSD was my second choice and i did get accepted to that…i think the only things that are holding me back from sending my SIR right now is 1) the fact that i know i’ll be homesick, 2) rumors about off-campus life being hella boring and 3) (not to sound vain or anything) the guys being ugly. that last bit isn’t so important, i promise. haha

should i bother sending an appeal to UCLA? what are the chances of them reconsidering my app and accepting me?

Well, UCSDs Appeal Admit Rate I hear is 8%. So that would mean that UCLAs would likely be lower; I'd estimate around 5%.

As for appeals + such, I believe you can still submit your SIR and send an appeal. If that appealing school accepts you, that is the one case you may pull your Intent from another school. I know this is how waitlist schools work, and am relatively sure the same applies for UC Appeals.

So go ahead and SIR, appeal, and likely not get in. Whatever you like.

WayyyTooWorried is right. You can submit your SIR to UCSD and then if your appeal works for UCLA you can cancel the UCSD appeal. My son did something like that w/ Davis and UCSD last year.

Why go to UCLA? Their dorms suck! UCSD has surfer guys if you're that vain. I sent my UCLA appeal and have heard nothing yet and the later you hear from them, you will have a crappy dorm and miserable first year. Isit that you hate SD? In terms of homesickness, ever heard of amtrak?

It isn't that I hate SD. In fact, I don't think I know enough about it to hate it. Maybe that's the problem. I don't know about the city and what goes on down there. Aside from visiting Sea World, I'm totally oblivious as to what else there is to see or visit.

And yeah, I've seen the dorms at UCLA--hella small and cramped. You can't even turn around without bumping into your roommate's crap.

But anyways, I guess the train's an option...

hypoch0ndriac: Technically you aren't suppose to submit more than 1 SIR. Either Davis or UCSD told him that if he accepted UCSD's appeal he would have to fax in a letter canceling his Davis SIR the same day. He sent in his UCSD SIR registered/certified mail and then came home and faxed Davis his cancellation.

Hm funny. UCLA was also my very first choice and I was rejected. I also do not know much about UCSD and don't like what I hear about the lack of social life and hot girls.

And we share the same birthday. Amazing. Good luck.

I went to UCSD admit day and I can say this:

It's college so you shouldn't come home like every weekend. Embrace the freedom. There's always the train like you said.

Actually I hear on-campus life is pretty boring. It's near the beach so that's a plus.

From admit day only I can say...that this is very true. Sorry. The girls were okay. I saw a few cute ones. But the guys were...not great.

Hey the dorms were spacey at least.

Funny how that works out. You're also a "New Member" and had 4 posts like me. Plus you got accepted to Marshall, right? Yeah, me too. :p I'm pretty sure we can find more things in common.

But anyway, I know UCSD's near the beach, and it -is- a plus. I'm just wondering how long it takes before I get tired of it and find nothing else to do.

By the way, are there any other dance teams beside Ascension?

Bet: If I can convince someone who has been accepted to Cal (Berkeley) and UCSD to go to UCSD and become a triton, then will you go to UCSD? We need more CCers!

Yes, entirely unacceptable, not just at UCSD, but in all of San Diego. I hear that most of socal, including LA is like this as well, but I can speak surely for San Diego.

"hella," and all words derived from or related to it (see: hecka, etc) are the #1 signs of Norcalism. It has also been reported that this disease has infected other parts of the country, thinking that it is "cool." Common symptoms of Norcalism: ignorance, stupidity, lameness.

Slang words that have been sanctioned for safe use in San Diego: cool, sweet, sick, nice, intense, awesome, dude. Tight and bro should be used cautiously, and bra should never be used.

Okay, okay, so most of the hating on "hella" and Norcal is a joke, but people WILL give you a hard time here if you use it. I'd recommend against it. Stooping to the level of "hecka," however, does draw some true hatred.

Lmao that's so hilarious. I always thought "hella" was a Socal thing, sorry. :\ Cool, sweet, sick, nice, etc etc are all surfer-dude things to say. I guess that's why their so "safe" to use in SD.

But okay, no hella.

And yeah, I'll take you up on your bet, Cecile. I know it's stupid to base my decision on that, but whatever works.

UCLA does hate me. With their appeal acceptance rate I feel like it's even more futile to bother giving it a second try, and I really don't feel like wasting my time. :[

I'm starting to wonder if I should start taking UCI into consideration too :x Stop me!
