I'm a senior that will apply to Penn but I'm not sure if I have to take the TOEFL. I have lived and, hence, studied in Puerto Rico all my life in private schools where English classes are taken very seriously. My first language is Spanish but I am fluent in both languages so I don't know. In the website of the University it says that students whose native language is not English "should" take the TOEFL but "should" could be meant either as a recommendation or as a requirement. Please enlighten me.

hi chammi!
i had contacted the office of admissions regarding the same matter and they advised me to take the toefl test irrespective of the SAT scores being an international student.

I think that is a clear indication of a requirement.Had they made any exceptions they would’ve definitely it mentioned on the website…

Well Tanvi3595, although you are right when saying the website sats that students whose native language is not English SHOULD take the TOEFL, I visited Penn a year ago and during the information session they said that anyone with a CR score over 650 doesn’t need the TOEFL. I asked this question a second time when a Penn admissions officer came to visit my school this year and I got the same response. Now, I do find it weird that they took it off their website since I’m sure it was there a few months ago…
