Enjoyed the basketball final. Closer game toward the end so some suspense!
Watched Menâs Basketball win gold and then flipped over and watched Nelly Korda win the gold in golf.
I saw a little of the rhythmic group gymnastics with multiple apparatus. I admit I donât know anything about rhythmic gymnastics, and had never even heard of, âgroupâ and âmultiple apparatusâ. I am not saying it is not hard, but it really seemed more of a dance and choreography competition. Maybe I just need to watch more?
Exciting menâs volleyball final going on now . Coming down to 15 point tiebreak.
Love it. The French volleyball guys doing the can-can!
Totally agree - it was highly entertaining watching 5 women with 5 balls move around and toss the balls. They were definitely more like dancers than gymnists. I also had never seen this before. Sort of a cross between synchronized swimming and acrobatics.
WOMENS volleyball on tonight 9:30 PT. For the Gold.
one of the players is from a very small town near us; went to our state school too. Very exciting!
i watched the tail end of the mens decathalon. The athletes just fell to the ground in exhaustion. I hadnât seen so many men lying on the ground before like that after a race. They gave it their all completely.
Just finished watching the U.S. show jumping team win the silver medal. Great jump off against the Swedish team that won gold. The team from France was on top then their final rider had a horse that refused jumps and put them out of the medals. Twenty nine year old Jessica Springsteen rode well in her first Olympics.
Every time we would turn our local channel on, womenâs volleyball would be on. This team is like family now! Go team!!
oops - edited and didnt need to
Water polo yay, USA women.
Itâs rhythmic gymnastics and itâs been an Olympic sport since 1984 for individuals and since 1996 for group . The governing body is USA Gymnastics, which is also the governing body for womenâs and menâs artistic gymnastics (thatâs the name for the type of gymnastics you see most often on TV). Artist gymnasts perform on the apparatus (beam, uneven bars, etc.), while rhythmic gymnasts perform holding the apparatus (ball, clubs, ribbon, and hoop). Rhythmics is hugely popular in Europeâitâs the one event where tickets are almost always sold out. The Russians and the Bulgarians have been the biggest Olympic medal winners in rhythmics. Rhythmics is one of two Olympic sports that is for women only. There are a few menâs teams, but not in the Olympics
The sport isnât very popular in the US; in part, because there arenât many gyms that offer it. The entire US rhythmic contingent in Tokyo was from one gym in the Chicago area. California also has a fair number of rhythmic gyms. The US did better this year than it ever has in rhythmics. We qualified a full contingentâ2 individual competitors and a group. In past years, the US didnât qualify to send any rhythmic gymnasts to the Olympics. In 1996, US rhythmic gymnasts were in the Olympics, but that was because we were the host country. This year, US individuals placed 12th and 13th, which is the best ever. Thatâs probably more than you wanted to know about RG. I have a kid who used to compete.
One of 3. Unless youâre counting softball as the female companion to baseball.
Iâve always enjoyed watching rhythmic gymnastics, I wish they showed it on prime time.
Wow! With Womenâs basketball and a cycling gold we are now tied for the most golds with China, with volleyball and I think boxing still to go.
Finally got to watch the 4x400 womenâs relay. All I can say is DAY-UM.
Womenâs Volleyball Gold!! Yea!!
I love when a coach cries.
Some lol moments at the Games⊠although some horses did not find this funny.
I was just about to walk out of the room when the French got disqualified. The horse hit two rails and then didnât go over the next jump at all (either his stride got messed up and/or he just balked). So they started to resume and the horse just flat out refused to do the next jump and they were disqualified. Pretty unexpected.
