I'm currently a sophomore at UCI and am thinking about transferring out of this school. I've just realized lately that I really don't like the culture and people here after a long time of thinking that I was the problem of not fitting into UCI's "mould."

Just very basically, I was wondering if transferring in the Fall of 2015 would be weird for a college student...The deadline for Fall 2014 is way past...so...any thoughts?

Where were you thinking of transferring? If it is a school with rolling admissions it is likely that the deadlines have not passed and that they will not seriously start looking at transfer applications until March or so.

What are your issues with UCI? What do you mean by the culture? Does the more limited (especially when compared to UCLA and Berkeley) social scene bother you? Plenty of schools, especially publics in the states bordering CA, have rolling admits although they differ wildly in feel.

I think you should do it! My friend got accepted into UCSB transferring from UCD for his senior year with a 3.2 GPA so its much easier UC to UC. If you don’t like UCI, transfer out! You’ll be so much happier for it. If you don’t, you might end up regretting it. Transferring out for one year isn’t weird at all.

For those that are wondering, to put it lightly, it’s come to my realization that UCI is a really really sheltered university. Like, the environment is highly different from the real world, where popularity is important and what popular people do sets the tone for the rest of the UCI community. It’s honestly a really weird place to be, and it’s pretty much messed with my mind freshman year because I thought there was something wrong with me…

But yeah, right now I’m on a road to recovery, cuz while thinking that there was a problem with me freshman year, I lost myself and who I was…and it totally destroyed my confidence. So right now–my sophomore year–I’m just trying to find myself again…improve my confidence, etc…
