Top 20 with low rank/grades?

Has anyone gotten into any of the Top 20 schools with a low high school rank and some B’s? Worried that my grades are going to be very, very, very detrimental towards my college acceptance/rejection experiences.

Depends how many B’s. 1 or 2 in your entire high school career, OK, not a big deal. Getting many Bs every semester? yes, that’s a problem.

Looking at your grades and ECs on your other thread, I think you do have a possibility.

You’re well aware that the top 20 are reaches for just about everyone. But you have an ACT score that indicates you can do the work, and you have interesting ECs. Good luck!

@appgodxoxo Not really. Plenty of people got rejected by some UC’s yesterday while the people with low GPA’s (mostly B’s) got accepted.

We’re talking UCSD, very good school.

Your essays are where you can show your potential.

@appgodxoxo @MidWestDad3 @ItsHydro I’ve been rejected from UCLA, UChicago, WashU and Northwestern so far, ,and while I’m completely aware alot of these schools are a crapshoot, I can’t help but feel like I have no chance anymore at any of the reach schools I applied to.

Did you apply to any safeties? Did you get in anywhere?

I have applied to safeties and have been accepted to all of them, yes. @ItsHydro

Which ones are they? @leannatorres

@ItsHydro UT Austin, A&M, UT Dallas, SMU and Baylor.

I’ll be graduating this year with like a 3.5.

I’ve gotten into Wash U, Middlebury, Colby, UW Madison, Brandeis, and BC, and I’ve been rejected from Northwestern and Columbia (ED). So, yes it’s possible to get into good schools with bad grades.

That said, I do have a 35ACT and a bunch of APs so there’s that.

@houseofcards19 Wow, great list of schools! Congrats! I have a 33 and a full IB Schedule, so we’ll see what happens, I guess!

@leannatorres TY and best of luck!
