Just wondering. Who here is going to the Penn Relays and what events are you running?

I think im gona run a 4x4

Just wondering. Who here is going to the Penn Relays and what events are you running?

I think im gona run a 4x4

well my school is sending a 4X4 team and i think 4X1 also.im not on either, of course lol.

soooooo do you guys have any pre-race rituals? for a while mine used to be to have a plain cinnamon raisin bagel for breakfast in the morning. also there is a stretch routine that we do at all practices and i always do it in the beginning of every meet. if i forget one of the stretches i feel so unprepared and i worry that im going to be in pain during the race. its really quite pathetic. other than that i don't really have any "odd" rituals

I'm going to Penn Relays. I'm in the 4x400. I also used to be in the 4x100, but I got bumped off today. (To be honest, I didn't mind at all.) I'm the fifth man in case anyone gets hurt, though. I think we leave Thursday afternoon.

The only ritual I have is a gulp of gatorade before I go to the starting line. Before the starter says "take your marks," I close my eyes and slow my breathing to relax myself. But nothing special.

Oh, I forgot to add. I PR'ed in the 400 last Thursday with a 51.6!

sweet, i Pr ed in the 400 wit a 52.8. I still lose to a 51.6 tho.. nd Penn was a pretty cool experience. There are some fast jamaican teams and some of the girls out there scare me, cause they r so fast.

No kidding. One girls' 4x100 team from Jamaica ran a 44.58! And three guys teams from Jamaican ran under 41. It was insane. The over-40 and over-50 races were awesome (my sprint coach was on the 40 and up Maryland Masters 4x100 team).

Even some of the middle school teams could fly. One team ran like a 47.8 or something.

My team did all right, our 4x100 team ran a 44.79 (which is exactly what my coach's 4x100 team ran). 4x400 ran a 3:37.69 (just checked the results). We would have run like a 3:30, but our third leg isn't really a 400 runner (he does the jump events and 4x100) so he flat out died at the end, but we had to put him in there because our normal guy hurt his groin in the 4x100 the day before. We were last in our heat when I got the baton for the anchor leg, but I caught two guys. It was just great to be there and feel the crowd while running.

And then we left the stadium and me and our third leg puked our guts out in the bushes while all the other 4x400 teams were waiting to be called. We got a couple teams worried. After I could walk again I laughed about it.

Are any of you guys running in college?

O yea, i think there was a over 60 4X1 or mayb it was over 50 4X1 but at the end, after a close race, the anchors of two teams hugged and the whole crowd went awwwwwwww. I think i saw my coach tearing up but neways yea, those teams are insane. I stayed to watch some 4by4 guys and i swear some of the high school kids were splitting 45 46 400s.

Ecliptica- I dont think im fast enough to get recruited by ne college, but i think i will probably join a track team after i get in any. But who knows, i m a junior and i have about 3 weeks to get faster.

^That 4x100 was an amazing race. The Maryland Masters team was in the lead, but they dropped the stick.

And one of the Jamaicans did split a 46 in the Championship of America 4x400.

just hit 10:02 in the 2 mile
current PRs
800m - 2:06
1600m - 4:55 (one of my 2 mile splits)
3200m - 10:02 (down from 10:26 2 weeks ago)
5000m - 16:25

I'm hoping I get to turn an actual 1600 and go 4:40-4:50

You guys just run just track or XC also?

I also ran Cross Country the past two years. Ran a 19:01 in on William and Mary's 3.05 mile course.

I only run shorter distances so no cross country for me.

Ecliptica, im running in BU.

EDIT: im GONNA run in BU.

I want to run in College...I just don't think im fast enough. This is only my second year running and I am getting better as time goes on. I would like to continue into college but I just don't know if they will want me.

PR's

400: 54
800: 2:01
1600: 4:36
3200: slow

They are decent but Im going to Cal Poly. Which from what i have heard has a prestigious XC team and I think track team also.

i feel the same way about running in college, CantbeataKTM

i LOVE running because its so fun! and also i would be really fat if i ever stopped lol....
but im not an amazing runner

like today i got a PR in the 800m - 2:47 YAY (amazing to me but not to really fast people)
and also in the 2000 steeplechase - 8:48

oh i am a girl by the way (have to keep saying that lol)

i love the team that i'm on now- we have some really REALLY fast people (including two who are prob going to be in the olympics), the decent/average people lol (like me), and a few eh,okay runners. so i am always motivated by the really fast people, and i also have people who are around my level that i can run with. and because of the two super fast people, and the other fast people, my team is ranked really high in NYC so i am kind of spoiled by being on the team

i'm afraid that if i run in college i will be either
1- on a mediocre team (i.e. if everyone is at my skill level lol)... too embarrassing
2- the slowest runner on the team by far... that would be horrible

so i guess i wish i could be guaranteed to be on a prestigious team where i am in the middle.. like now in high school. that would be awesome!!!!!!

AHHH, I HATE IT WHEN PEOPLE SAY THIS. This really disrespects the entire sport of track and field.

CantbeataKTM - Cal Poly has some pretty good mid-distance guys, but a 2:01 isn't a bad time at all. I think they have three guys in the 1:52-1:53 range this year, but aren't they a DII school? I don't think they would cut anyone who goes out for the team and works hard enough to deserve a spot.

EDIT: Whoops, I was wrong; they're DI now.

they'll accept 2:01. no $$ tho.

By BU, you meant Boston University and not Baylor, right?

ok ecliptica i'm sorry

YOU SHOULD BE!!

I'm just kidding, I didn't mean to come off as harsh, it just really irritates me because everyone I talk to always says something like: "Oh, you run track? Some kid from my school ran 10 seconds in the 100" or "Some kid from my school ran 4 minutes in the mile". Ignorance makes me :(

then i dont understand what it is that irritated you..
i thought you were referring just to my comment about the olympics.

how am i ignorant by saying that there are some people on my team who are so much better than the rest of us, and who are part of the reason why i like being on the team (since they really inspire me)?
