Hello everyone!
Here, I'll make this simple:

GPA: 3.41
Major: Sociology
Only one class missing from IGETC
No Tag (I don't have a 3.5 gpa)

Please. Do you guys think I have a chance at UCSD? My major is not impacted. Thanks!!

is that one igetc class missing after spring 2012 or after fall 2011?

After Fall 2011. Bad or no?

no. As long as you finish before end of spring 2012, I believe it is okay.

Awesome. Thanks and if I don’t…that means I get to finish it at UCSD right? That’s what everyones telling me.

Generally, you’ll be at a disadvantage if you don’t finish IGETC as a sociology major. It’s risky business, and you have a year to take care of one class so get it done.

you can try to apply tag, because if your gpa goes up by the end of fall to 3.5, you are in. if you apply regularly, the cut off gpa is 3.8. you don’t stand much chance. the competition is really high now.

Really? 3.8? I guess UCSD will only be accepting about a handful of people…because not everyone has a 3.8. They said the same last year about accepted people with 3.2 WITHOUT TAG.

On their site they said usually no lower than 3.4, but TAG into UCSD and your chances are 1000 times better

Oh I see! Yeah…tough stuff.

Hey can you please tell me where you saw the 3.4?

Have a competitive GPA in UC-transferable courses and be in good academic standing. The average GPA for fall-admitted transfer students is usually at least 3.4

Never mind. Found it :)

I actually don’t know anyone who got accepted into UCSD last year with a 3.0-3.4 GPA that did not tag in. Last year, UCSD was so flooded with TAG applicants, that they were forced to raise the GPA cutoff for non-TAG applicants to a 3.8. However, a lot of other applicants with below a 3.8 were given the option to be placed on a transfer waitlist, and I believe everyone on the waitlist got in. I had a 3.55 at the time I applied as a Computer Science major. I applied without TAG and was placed on the waitlist because my GPA was below the 3.8 cutoff (I called and confirmed this), but I was accepted off of the waitlist on June 2nd. I don’t know what the cutoff GPA was for the waitlist applicants, but I wouldn’t be surprised if I barely made the cut, even for the waitlist. TAG and the economy made the transfer admission process crazy last year. I highly doubt, however, that the GPA cut off for this year is still 3.8 because the increase in the minimum GPA requirements to qualify in TAG would reduce the number of TAG applicants they receive, thus increase the number of spots available for non-TAG applicants making the competition more similar to the year before last.

You’re right! Thanks for your response. By the way, think of it this way: This year you can only TAG to ONE UC. I don’t think UCSD will get a ton of TAG applicants because not everyone has a 3.5 and completed IGETC. Last year, anyone with a 3.0 or higher and completed IGETC could apply for TAG and be “guaranteed” admission. I have a feeling a 3.3-3.4 would be pretty good to get into UCSD with a non-impacted major. I think a 3.3 would def be the cutoff.
