I currently go to San Jose State right now, and it wasn't my choice of school. My parents limited me significantly in where I could have applied to last year. My top choice was Cal Poly SLO, and I got rejected. I really want to leave SJSU and go to Cal Poly. They said I can't transfer in until I have completed 60 semester credits, which essentially means I have to wait until I'm a Junior, and I don't want to wait that long. Is it possible to transfer in as a "Freshman" next year, and then see if my credits from SJSU transfers over?

CSUs, like UCs generally only accept transfer students who will be entering as juniors. The state requires both systems to maintain 40% of their seats for lower division students and 60% for upper division to be able to have sufficient space available for the large number of students who do their lower division coursework at community colleges and then transfer to a UC or CSU. Cal Poly SLO is also required to give admission priority to transfer applicants from community colleges over transfer applicants from other four year colleges and universities.

If you want to be a “freshman” transfer (i.e. you have less than 60 units completed), you will need to apply like a HS grad, which means you will need to submit your HS grades and test scores just like any freshman, along with your SJSU grades.

If you did less than stellar in HS, then it will be a big minus for admissions. So yes, you can do it, but it won’t be easy.
