Is a GPA from a harder school any different than a higher GPA from a much less known school?

It does matter to an extent.

whats this extent?

It depends on the university.

I think classes are also a factor as well. If you take harder classes and get decent grades, your chances of transferring are better. But that's kind of obvious.

It matters 100%. I had a 3.4ish at Columbia and got into Duke, Dartmouth, Brown, and Harvard as a transfer. No way I could have touched those schools with a 3.4 at a lesser place.

HOw hard is Tulane considered? I have a 3.64

I'm applying to Brown (FIRST CHOICE) Pomona, Yale, Oberlin, Vassar, Tufts, Swarthmore, UPenn, UPS and WUSTL

Tulane is a pretty easy transfer. I believe they give good transfer aid too in terms of merit scholarships in comparison to others.

I think Clay is transferring out. Clay how were you in high school? If you were competitive enough, you should be fine.

Unless your high school was horrible... and your essays and ECs are bad/weak, then you should probably get into at least a couple of those schools (I'd think you would be able to get into Tufts at the very least.) If all of the aforementioned things are good... then you should probably get into multiple schools. I believe the good LACs are pretty hard to transfer into, but give it a shot...

It's brown that i really care about :)

The good news is... Brown's transfer acceptance rate was higher than their freshman acceptance rate last year.

Good luck. I remember others mentioning that Brown is really big on high school records like they have a more in depth form than most transfer applications. So that could have a big affect on whether you get in or not.

i have a 3.96, most rig courses, top 10%. However, my 2 b's do happen to be from my senior year (though there is a note explainging a medical reason for a drop in my grades)

was waitlisted last year, bwt. WANT IN SO BAD!!

does anyone know how hard U of T is considered?

I just called the school (duke), yesterday that I wanted to transfer to, she said the the 3.5 thing was just so people with a 2.0 won't waste their time. I was relieved b/c I thought my 3.6 at Dartmouth wasn't going to go over so well when it's an A- GPA. And yes, she said it depended on the classes, also another relief because genetics and cell bio were killing me.

so the school you're coming from does matter i assume? bc arguably some schools are harder than others

i talked to a brown admin counselor and she said they don't take it into account very much because some people go to CC for money reasons, etc. However, I don't know if she meant in general, or in direct reference to GPA

Also, how do you guys think schools view S (satisfactory) on transcripts. I have one for Calc 1. The rest of my GPA is a 3.64

the duke transfer admis. officer said that they usually take people from the same caliber schools mostly because they know how to perform in about the same setting.
