Since we're all neurotic on here anyhow, I figured I'd see when people completed the housing app to gauge my chances.

Since we're all neurotic on here anyhow, I figured I'd see when people completed the housing app to gauge my chances.

May 7, 2012 9:02AM

I got mine in at 9:02, however, I don’t have a William and Mary email yet (I have yet to send in my deposit.) They said you can apply without depositing, but now I’m really worried. =/

May 7, 2012 9:02 AM

They don’t alert people until after the deposit date is past- so that the list is final. It’s first come first serve (and the W&M email wasn’t a required item), so as long as 50 people weren’t faster than us you should be fine.

I hear what you’re saying, but the panic-obsessed part of me is concerned that the confirmation page said I would be alerted by william and mary email when I didn’t enter one into the field. shrug

I know what you mean; I started this thread because I’d convinced myself I’d taken too long on the app and wouldn’t end up with housing.

I saw on the other thread that you’re at Northeastern; are you from MA? I’m currently at UMass Lowell… Nice to see another Northern transfer at W&M.

Haha 9:01.

9:02 for me haha,

did you guys get an email verification saying you submitted? because I didnt and I was worried about that haha.

Also, what residence halls did you guys request?

I requested ludwell and dupont but I dont know much about any of the dorms

I submitted mine at 9:01 and 30 seconds - requested Jamestown north and south, Bryan hall/Bryan complex, Hamilton, and Page. Where do you guys think I’ve got the best shot?

And no confirmation e-mail here either. I spoke with res life though and they said the only confirmation you get is that little page that pops up once you’ve submitted the app.

I went to the day for admitted transfers on Saturday, and I’m pretty sure they said that they had no reserved space for transfers in Jamestown. You could still get a spot though if someone studies abroad or something happens. I also read or another thread that the preference does not matter too much on which one they offer you, but I am not sure if that is true or not.

I based my prefs off the housing offered for last year; traditionally spaces are allotted in Landrum, Chandler, random parts of Bryan, Brown, The Frat Complex/Independent Units and Freshman dorms like Taliaferro.

So whoever wanted the J-Town dorms/ Randolph Complex, there most likely wasn’t any space- those are the two most populars picks for seniors who choose to stay on campus.

Now that I think about it, I forgot to put Old Dominion on my list… Not traditionally offered to transfers but you never know. Oh well.

I did basically ask to be put anywhere on campus but the Frat Complex (yes girls can end up there- not in the specific Frat ones, but the independent units), as that place is wicked nasty. Top choice was Landrum, even though I’ve never been a fan of the all-female dorm deal. I really just wanted to be close to Old Campus.

So… is anyone brave enough to email ResLife and ask when/if housing filled up?

I think my tour guide on Sat said that they reserve a little bit of space in Jamestown for transfers. I could be having a little spell of wishful thinking but I think I remember her saying that. If not, hopefully someone will drop out or go abroad or something – living in Jamestown sounds fantastic. By the same token, however, the units (whatever the hell those are - I cant really find anything that specifies their location or any floor plans or anything) sound awful. I’m gonna be ****ed if I ultimately decide to go here and then I get stuck with something like that. They really should devise a system in which prospective students could see what the probable housing assignments would be. It’s pretty unnerving to completely commit to a place without really having any idea where you will live.

But anyways, with regard to the actual housing assignments, the one thing I’ve sort of gleaned from talks with people in res life and from a little digging on the website is that they reserve certain rooms all over the campus for transfers. It’s not like everyone that’s currently in the school gets their picks and then the transfers get all the scraps – As I understand it, they block out certain spaces all over the campus during the time-slotted lottery for current students in order to reserve rooms for transfers, R.A.'s, etc. Now, again, this is coming from a guy who’s knowledge is completely derived from a few web pages and phone conversations with residence people, so take it with a grain of salt. I’m pretty sure that’s how it works though.

The William and Mary rep (if you’re out there) could probably answer this question with a considerably greater amount of accuracy.

BTW - YoungHistorian - I’m sort of scared to contact them anymore. This lady that I’ve talked to a few times sounds like shes a couple seconds away from dropping a “CHILD PLEASE! Don’t you know I aint got time for this?!” and slapping me through the phone :). I think they may be inundated with the same sort of questions over and over again. Whatever, it’s pretty funny and she’s actually been quite helpful. But if you’ve got the guts, go ahead.

Lol, no way. That scenario is pretty much what I pictured. I just figured that someone on here would become impatient/anxious enough to try. Based on one of the posts on Admit It, someone had reached that point, as this thread and the facebook one made them nervous.

Here’s the info site on the units: [William & Mary - Fraternity Complex](http://www.wm.edu/offices/residencelife/oncampus/residencehalls/upperlevel/fraternity/index.php)

But if the Jamestown thing is true, that makes me pretty glad I decided to just throw it into my res hall pref. list.

Unfortunately we don’t have all the answers. Residence Life manages this process but they do set aside rooms for transfers each year. Where the rooms are likely varies each year but the Residence Life staff aren’t scary people, we promise. You can certainly contact them by phone or email to learn more about their process.

@YoungHistorian I’m not from MA, I’m actually from New Jersey! (<-Thus explaining why I was wait listed last year…soooo many applicants…) But yeah. I’m actually still at Northeastern for our Summer I session…hopefully everything transfers over okay if I decide to go.

Has anyone heard anything about when housing offers will be released?

I got the housing offer just now. at Tribe Square! :)

Yay! I got housing… A double in Landrum :)

I got triple in ludwell :)!!!

Im just happy I got on campus and luckily ludwell is close to the business school which I’m hoping to get into.

But I’m overall really nervous about everything but this should all be a great adventure

I was placed in a double in brown! I’m just happy I have a spot on campus!
