I’m going to the 06/28 orientation!

I’m going tomorrow! I’m a ChE major!

Not MIT? lol jk

I’m hoping tomorrow goes smoothly and quickly. Hopefully I can get all my classes.

bumppppppp

I’m going to the 6/28 orientation too!

This is exactly what “they” want you to do…

AlexlinFTW im also going to the 7/5 one… looks like were gonna be the only ones there… haha

What you talking about pierr?

Enjoy your orientation guys! I was a transfer last year and I was eventually able to get all the classes I wanted with the professors I wanted. As long as you are diligent and check for openings constantly, you should be able to get in.

Is it necessary to go to transfer orientation?

I signed up for the 6/28 one. But I’m currently taking summer school Monday-Thursdayy and I reallyyyyy don’t want to miss one day bc it’s hard to catch up!

If I didn’t go to orientation, I would just come up to UT on a Friday to meet with an advisor so I can register for classes. Also, I toured UT last year (I kind of remember it…). I also have friends who go there. So I’m not entirely sure going to Orientation is worth me missing one class day!

I believe if you don’t go, you have to wait until august to sign up for classes. Meeting with an adviser on a Friday may gain you access to registering, but I don’t know. Honestly, the transfer orientation was kind of pointless, I knew everything they told us…

I enjoyed transfer orientation, and depending on what you have scheduled for class that day, I would recommend going (maybe tell your summer professor what’s up so you can get materials ahead of time so as not to fall behind?) I had already met with my counselor and knew what classes I needed, and I knew people on campus, but orientation allowed me to meet more people in my major, pick up materials from my college, etc. I also was able to get a lot of questions answered during the pre-med session that helped me solidify my schedule before registration rather than after and trying to make changes. I think the big bonus for me was hitting the UTransition meeting - when you register with them you get tutoring credits, and that was a huge weight off my shoulders as I adjusted to the UT environment and took a heavy load of science courses.

Will there be less class openings if I go to the orientation in August? I really don’t want to pay for airfare twice, since I’m out of state, California…

thaisteak, there will defiantely be less class openings. I also went to the first transfer orientation and after registration opened, several classes filed up immediately. Especially the UGS course and other university core classes Don’t get me wrong, there are still many classes that do have openings. Though considering that there are at least 2 more orientations between now and August, there will be even less class times available then.

boooooo… :(

It won’t be too bad though. You could always just get some of your elective credits out of the way this semester :)

I’ve talked to a few friends there and such about classes.

I’m taking Chem I lecture and lab over the summer, so missing one day is actually a really big deal.

Ahh I don’t know what to do!

I do need to meet with my psych advisor for my major but I also do want to talk to someone about the pre-med routee.

You should be able to schedule a psych advising appointment at a time when you don’t have class without much of a problem - I did mine about 2 weeks after I got my transfer acceptance because I’m a little OCD and wanted to nail down my schedule before orientation (which was a bit different because I didn’t get to register until a week before school started). You can contact the HPO office too and try to set something up that same day - hit up Psych first then go over to Painter to answer any pre-med questions your department advisor can’t answer.

Feel free to PM me if you want - I went through all of this last semester, same major and pre-med track, so I might be able to help and share what I found out during the process, etc.

To the people who alreadyy went to transfer orientationn:

Is the college meeting really necessaryy to go to? I was thinking about visiting the Housing office instead of going to it.
