Transfer Orientation

Sorta, for economics (they split liberal arts up because of the size), they went over class selection, what we needed for our degree and a few other things. They actually didn’t require us to do anymore advising after the group meeting and lifted our bar so I was able to register at like 11 before anyone else. I’m sure it is different for every college so I would suggest going to it. Is there any reason why you want to go to housing then? There is plenty of time in the afternoon.

So I noticed that all of the classes I want to take are either closed or waitlisted. If I go to an advisor at orientation with a clear cut schedule of what I want will they be able to force me into those classes?

The can only put you into classes for your major, e.g. if chemistry is your major, then spaces are reserved in most of those classes, but they wouldn’t be able to force you into an English class. But because not all the spots reserved for students in the major will be used up, some spaces will be opened so you just have to be vigilant, as well as watch the payment deadlines and try some of the Friday morning tricks others on the board have posted about.

sundoll, what friday morning tricks are there?

On the last day of that week’s orientation (sometimes Thursday, sometimes Friday if orientations are staggered like last year), that orientation session gets to register for classes. For many freshmen level classes (especially UGS 302,303) more spots will open up in those classes. So, wake up at 8am when registration begins for those new orientees, and you will see spots open up in many classes. This is how I got into a few classes my freshman year.

You can add me on to the college of liberal arts on the 28th!

I just got done with an event(flag football tournament) I was doing logistics for last night. I’m going to be really tired during this orientation. I think i’m going to leave my house at 4 AM just to get there at 8 AM. Driving from Dallas.

I’ll be wearing blue with blue shoes, cyall there :).

I’m going in the fall (aug 18-19) not 7/5 :(

Oh, sorry. You’ll be fine lol. They open up a lot of classes during each orientation.

^ I hope… I looked at the courses already and most of the open ones are “restricted?” I don’t know why its restricted… haha like the Bio 311C classes are almost all filled up :(((((

Orientation was alright. Lots of students there. I already knew what they were going over, and the two BME advisors didn’t really help much. There were only THREE BME students out of the whole thing! ■■■■■! Unfortunately, no classes opened up. They either stayed closed or waitlisted. :frowning:
I will also have to spend another four years at UT if I decide to stay with BME. -_- Parents are really unhappy about the extra 20k cost. :/

It was hectic and didn’t get the teachers I planned on getting. I waited till 2PM on the dot to hit register and I got an error that said to call Student Services. Took 5 minutes to sort it out, by the time that was done, all my fav. professors were closed. Anyways, my advisor helped me out a lot. Told me all about the MPA courses and so forth. Found out I was accepted to the program just now too, but my class schedule for fall is looking pretty rigorous.

Didn’t have much time to socialize, was running around the campus back and forth to remove bars that should have never been there and so forth. Was also running on an hour worth of sleep.

I probably spent too much time socializing. 2 of my roommates were there and like 5 friends that didn’t even know were transferring to UT lol. Thankfully I’ve already completed my lower division classes for my major and there were a lot of open upper-division classes or my schedule would pretty much be screwed up. Right now it’s not so bad though.

Xcellerator, one of my friends was a part of your group of three lol. She said there was only one other girl and one boy and that advising was pretty much pointless too lol.

Wow… Now I’m really worried about getting Bio 311c and Ch301… ■■■!

I’m going to orientation 18-19 of august… wowow…

Bio and Chem will open up for non-freshman students July 17th, so hopefully you can get a slot?

Sundoll, how do you know this? That actually made me feel a lot better. Haha

does anybody know if there is a way for me to register for classes even though I haven’t gone to orientation yet? :frowning: I’m desperate now… ■■■…

@thaisteak There is no loop hole but just remember, when you meet with your adviser as a group you fill out a form and turn it in (which is proof you actually woke your ass up and got to orientation) anyways once you do that, go find a computer and wait a few minutes or so and see if you can register. Don’t wait for the actuall registration timing if you know what to take, that piece of paper you turn it gets updated into a system which removes the registration block.

DenuMx - Lol wow. I just gave up on registering after 30 minutes. Probably most others too. Nothing opened up so I just registered for classes that I didn’t want. :/

longhornhopeful7 - I didn’t really have time to socialize. College meeting, advising, and getting the ID took up most of the time lol. Had to look at a couple of apartments and off campus dorms (Castilian & Dobie) too. Yeah, I was the guy in that group. Is your friend the one from Pearland (J…) or the one from Columbia (N…)? Both were from UTSA I think. A lot of people were surprised I transferred from A&M. XD

thaisteak - Don’t think think so. You need to go to advising to get your advising bar lifted in order to register.
