Transfer to Berkley

I am going to be an incoming Freshman at UCR in the Fall of 2011. I want to transfer to the Business School at UC Berkeley from UCR. What classes should I enroll for as a freshman at UCR? I also wanted to add that I did not pass my ELWR and am enrolled in ENGL004 and ENGL004D. I can always take summer classes, just not this summer because they gave me the results at such a late notice. So what do I need to do to get into UC Berkeley?

Also can anyone explain not passing the ELWR? Am I behind? How can I make this up?

Not passing the ElWR just means you need more practice writing, because theirs a lot of writing and reading in college. I believe you have till Friday to sign up for UCRs Summer bridge program. The program will allow you to satisfy the ElWR requirement before the fall.

the way ucr’s business program is designed, you get enrolled as a pre-business student in CHASS (College of Humanities and Social Sciences) until you’ve finished your lower div, then usually at the end of your second year you apply for admission into SoBA (School of Business Administration). So you are not allowed to take upper div business courses. These are the classes you should be taking: http://chassstudentaffairs.ucr.edu/pre-business_program/PRBSWorksheet11F.pdf</a></p>

As for the ELWR and Engl004, it all depends on how you look at it. I’d say yes, you are behind, but only by one class, so it’s not a big deal. However, there are a few more sections of engl004 offered than engl001a, which implicates that more people are placed into 4 than 1a. The ucr prebusiness two year suggested plan can be found here: [UCR: CHASS Student Academic Affairs](http://chassstudentaffairs.ucr.edu/pre-business_program/prebus_01-2010.html). If you placed into math22 instead of math4, you could say you’re on track, since you’d be ahead one class and behind one class according to that suggested plan.

Sorry, I tend to make things overcomplicated. Point is, it would be better if you placed into engl001A, but it’s not a huge deal that you didn’t.

Why do freshmen go to UCR to transfer to a different UC .
Dude, im going to say this straight up, if your going to transfer anyway ,cancel your admission to UCR and go to community college . Community College students have priority over other students when transferring . And you’ll be able to do your entry level writing requirement at community college way quicker then if you go to UCR .

If you didn’t do summer bridge your going to have a very hard time getting your writing done along with the Berkeley pre-reqs within 2 years . Ultimatly its up to you, but CC is deffinitly the way to go if you want to transfer .

I completely agree. Plus it’s cheaper.

On another note, I think it’s hella annoying when people don’t even acknowledge that others took the time out of their day to give them free advice.

I think it’s because many freshman do not want to miss out on a first-year dorm experience. Plus, they think it’s better to be educated at a UC school than being educated at a community college. Their ultimate goal is to transfer when they come to UCR, and consider UCR as a safety option if they fail to transfer.

How about you just not enroll in college “future” freshman and go to trade school or something.

When I was first entering UCR, I had the same mindset…along with a majority of my peers. I don’t blame the OP, as this was my plan also. I could’ve transferred into UCB EASILY, but chose not to. Give the campus a chance, and if you don’t like it, then transfer. By the way, I understand his reasoning…at least this way, he would get to keep his UC GPA, right?
