The psychology major at UCLA is rather competitive, so you should aim to raise your GPA by about .1 or .2 points, to about a 3.7 or 3.8. You should be able to do it.

I would chance you, but first, I need to know more about your student profile. Are you in SMC’s scholars program? Tap certified, or will be? If you’re TAP certified or will be by fall, you can definitely gain admission with a 3.65 GPA.

What extracurricular activities have you engaged in? UCLA doesn’t seem to care very much about this, but it’s nice to have some under your belt anyway.

Sociology major, 4.0 and TAP certified. Chance me?

@haz why are you going to ask that… (I’m assuming you finished all your pre-reqs)

@Hazgirl411 did you just post that to boost your ego? lol

@Hazgirl I think you can answer that yourself

I am not trying to boost my ego, I’ve heard on here that even people with my gpa get rejected! With Tap! If you look on past ones there are people rejected with my GPA. Sorry I came off as “egotistic” as you assumed but I didn’t mean it that way at all.

To be honest, I think that’s the best you can get. 4.0 (all pre-reqs done) and TAP. I don’t think extracurriculars are a big part of UCLA admissions. (heard from MsSun)

How very ignorant of you to say that to @hazgirl411 ^^ just because someone has a 4.0 doesn’t mean they have a better chance at getting in.

@hoping I guess… It’s just that sociology is a very impacted major and anything is possible. All these horror stories I am reading about soc majors that have my stats were getting rejected just makes me lose hope of getting in. Anything can happen.

@cc I know! 4.0 or not it’s STILL hard to get in. Especially an impacted major like sociology.

I think the point people are making is that with stats like that chancing is pointless. If your GPA is perfect, and you have completed all the requirements what is someone supposed to say?

They look at other factors besides your academics as well.

@UC I know. Its just that with UCLA you never know. You can have ‘perfect’ stats but if you’re in an impacted major and competing against others that have ‘perfect’ stats too. There’s no say because you never know.

I guess I should have posted more about my situation too…I don’t have many extra curriculars, I put the ones I did in highsschool and worked part time for the summer.

@ CC I understand they look at other factors besides GPA. However, no one here knows the actual formula as to how those things are weighted. Someone is chancing you based on your GPA, your EC’s and how selective the school is.

@ Hazgirl I understand what you are saying. I was just kind of playing devils advocate. Without seeing your essay and knowing any other information all people can do is evaluate stats. The “you never part” is exactly that, no one here knows that missing part of the equation. I wish you the best of luck I have my fingers crossed for both of us.

I am going based off what MsSun said. I did not say that extracurriculars don’t count. I just said that they play a small role in UCLA’s admission.

@UCBound Thanks for being objective about it, that’s very true. They are holistic as people have said, I guess the best word to describe their admissions considerations is unpredictable. Thanks a lot I wish you luck as well and everyone else here too! Btw, what is your major @UCBound?

I am a Poli. Sci. major.

@UC true, I was just stating the general but you are indeed right. There is no actual formula.
