Transfer - Would LOVE some help, please.

Alright I've pretty much posted in every hole of this site about Umich transfers, and got little to no replies.

Could somebody PLEASE answer some of my questions about transferring? The application has just been released and I want to get done with it before school starts in less than 1 month.

1) Umich's 2009 essay topics are the SAME as last years, am I supposed to rewrite them? Or just submit the same saved ones?

Wouldn't it be really cheesy if I submitted an essay which would have the same core to it? (since it's the same topic)

2) Is there anything like the Early Decision plan for Freshmen for transfers? Or wouldn't it matter if I submitted tomorrow or in January as a transfer?

3) What other overall helpful advice could I get concerning a transfer to Umich? I had pretty solid stats as a high school senior, but the center of my rejection was applying late.

I will be applying for a transfer from MSU honors incase anyone's wondering. Would a 3.5+ suffice for a transfer into LSA?

If you'd like to see my highschool/AP stats please let me know.

Thank you very much.

1) I would rewrite them to match your current situation and make your essays even better than before.

2) For transfers, I don't think it matters too much, but as always, earlier is better.

3) advice? umm, apply earlier, and keep up the good grades. A 3.5+ I would think sould suffice for a transfer, but I would recommend taking classes that show interest in a certain field that you are looking to pursue.

1) I wrote my essays again. I was thinking about using the same one's, but to be safe, just re-write them.

2) I applied for a transfer after the first semester of my freshman year in January. I heard back at the end of February.

3) A 3.5+ from MSU should be good enough. I don't think transferring is difficult.

Thank you very much, I appreciate it.

I'll just finish up my essays in the remaining summer days and submit my application during the 1 month winter holiday, awesome.

one more thing, activities won't matter as much as a transfer right? I doubt I'll be able to join clubs or anything in the 1st semester, I'll be busy getting used to the city/college.

nono, activites can help even if its for 1 month or so. Activites show that you seek to become an active part of the community, which can definitely help your application. Since its only for a short while, join several clubs that interest you. And plus, you can most likely continue that same club (diff people) at Umich if you do transfer.

^^ I disagree.

I did jack **** at my previous college except for one or two group activities that were related to my classes and wrote about them in my essays. Trust me on this - GPA matters the most, and after that how well you answer your essay questions.

well, I never said you can't get in without clubs. Clubs just gives a little boost that can help your application. And plus, joining clubs isn't hard at all especially if your only joining for one semester.

Sounds good, I'll join 1-2 clubs, doesn't sound too bad at all.

Started writing my transfer essays today. Hopefully all goes well.

1) I was in a similar situation as you and I used my old essays and got in the second time.

2) I applied early, but I don't know...

3) Good grades.

I'm currently transferring to Michigan. I don't really remember the essays...what were the topics? One was on academics and one was on diversity...was there one on a book or something?

I think I would try to write different essays...You probably would come off as lazy if they see you applied before and looked at your file (if they have it).

I hear Michigan is rolling for transfers...but I didn't know that when I applied. I submitted a week before the deadline.

I had decent grades...I went to a pretty good school before (not Michigan) and I took some upper level classes. Furthermore, I'm transferring as a junior...and it's easier to do that...at least for LSA. I hear that transferring to Michigan is getting harder (even though that's just what's happening nationwide). I don't know if being instate helps or hurts for transfers, I'm out of state.

In terms of advice, I would say getting good grades is important. I was involved in a couple of things at my school, and one thing that I was really passionate about. I don't know, it can be a transforming experience. I really can't think of anything to say right now, but I'll check back later...

Is Michigan the place you want to go most?
