I applied to Binghamton at around October under the business major - accounting which obviously leads to the school of mangement, as an EOP applicant. However, during the waiting duration, i've receieved an email from the director stating that i wasn't qualified for the School Of management but had given me a chance to switch over to Harpurs Liberal Arts and Science school; so obviously i agreed to do so. Fortuntely today, i receieved my acceptance letter under Harpors School. The point i'm trying to make is if it is reccommendable to just enroll and have a shot to transfer into the business school during/after my freshman when applicable; OR, just enroll to the other schools i've been accepted to under business? For your information, i've also been accepted to SUNY buffalo, SUNY stony brook, and SUNY Geneseo, all under the eop program. What do you guys think? For my personal reference, i'm trying to decide between geneseo and binghamton considering them both being among the top public universities in the nation; binghamton ranked at 9, and geneseo at 7th.

This is a tough one, I heard that it can be really difficult to transfer into the business school once you're in since it is ranked 40th in the nation. I would say if you like Binghamton more and are confident that you can get competitive grades enough to transfer into the business program, then do that.

geneseo can have a very different feel than bing, so it depends on personal preference and whether or not you want to take the chance

Its almost impossible to transfer into SOM. SOM is ranked 40 in the nation but to get into bing at harpur and transfer to schools like villanova and penn state business schools u only need a 3.0. and they are both ranked better than 40

Sigh...
I really need some advice from a person who have been in this situation or knows more about this situation. I'm in urgent need for some help; i really can't decide at the moment.
Help !

I would go with Genesco. Only because as someone reported it is very difficult to transfer into the business school which means you need to be near the top with a GPA. What are the chances that you think you will be able to ace your courses in freshman year?

DiN009. You didnt read my post. First off idk if its harder to get into SOM or Villanova's business school straight from High School. THe OP is talkin about once your in school at Binghamton how hard is it to intra transfer into SOM from Harpur. And i said it would be easier to transfer to a school like villanova because in fact it is easier. A lot of times there isnt evn any openings to SOM like this spring.

Adiorio,

I am not sure where you got your information about Penn State and only needing a 3.0 to transfer into Smeal at Penn State University Park, as the business school does not accept transfer students. Are you sure you really know enough about what you're talking about to give advice? It doesn't sound like it.

I hope your joking rite? That is a very false statement you made. First your only allowed to have one year of school work at the college you were originally at. Then you apply to smeal and if you are accepted you have to go to one of the satelite campus's for one year then for your junior and senior year you are at university park in the smeal business school. Ive already gone threw the admission process, however i decided im going to stay in bing for another year and transfer out to a school like villanova or equivelent. I have talked to penn state, have gotten accepted but if you dont believe me here is direct from their website.

No transfer admission into any program in Smeal College if you have 3 or more semesters of work.

If you have 2 semesters of work, a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 is required as well as 3 credits of either English composition/literature or effective speech and 3 credits of either college algebra or calculus.

i have no idea where your gettin there is no transfer into smeal buddy. i do in fact no what im talkin bout

If you read what I said, I said that you are not able to transfer into University Park. The branch campus admissions are different from the main campus and are a lot easier. Also, I hate to be a grammar nazi, but reading your post actually made me cringe.

blazinreaper, my brother currently attends Binghamton as a philosophy/political science student. Last winter he applied to transfer to the SOM to major in business and was rejected with a 3.4 gpa. He has said that he knows of classmates who got in to SOM who had 3.8+ gpa's

wrong again. That is the application to smeal. I already got accepted to it i no for a fact its smeal. You go to a branch campus for one year to get ur gen eds and basic **** out of the way and then your at university park which is the main campus and your at smeal. Your get a degree from Penn State University Park Smeal College of Business. Not only did i get accepted to and am choosing not to go. My best friend who is a year older than me went to rutgers transfered to penn state is currently at the satelite school this year for his sophmore year and will indeed be going to university park and in the smeal business school next year for his junior and senior year. The 3.0 is to get into smeal. True my gpa is better than that but all you need is a 3.0. my friend has something along the line of a 3.04

Not only do you need that gpa of 3.8 but there needs to be spots open. And it looks like this next year they will have too many kids yet again if the financial crisis plays impact on where kids are going to school. Which makes it that much less likely of many opening slots

And i love how your telling me things when i have already been accepted. Out of high school i was accepted there for engineering cause thats what i planned on doing. I came to bing for engineering hated it. Now is harpur with pretty much no chance of getting into SOM. Thats why im transfering. Im waiting a year because i dont like penn state that much and i dont want to spend a year at a satelite campus

That's very interesting; thanks for the input guys.
By the way, i talked with one of SOM's advisors yesterday weirdly on AIM, the chat was great, and he told the requirements of transfering into SOM; he said you should have at least a minimum of a 3.3 to be qualified and few mandatory courses such microecon, macroecon, and calculus.

...ok, I'll try this again, as you are seem to be like that kid that was always trying to put the square in the circle in preschool. As I said, YOU CAN'T TRANSFER INTO SMEAL AT UNIVERSITY PARK. Main campus is the real Smeal. You were accepted to transfer into a smeal branch campus equivalent. The branch campus admissions, including the knock off smeal, are a joke. Unfortunately, you would be allowed to slide up into the real smeal after a year, but you were not accepted into the main Smeal.

Well if your saying im getting into the satelite school but then allowed to go into smeal then im still ending up at the real smeal even though apparently i didnt get accepted into it who cares i would get a degree from there and be at the real one my junior and senior year. And my main point was saying its easier to get into penn state business school which is smeal even though you dont really get accepted there you end up in it than it is to transfer into SOM. I highly daubt this is the case, if it is i dont understand how that works. How if i decided to go to penn state next year go to the satelite school and then junior year be at smeal at the MAIN campus but never got accepted into smeal. I dont have to apply for a transfer from the satelite school, its guranteed. And as showed in one of my earlier post the credentials were for smeal at UNIVERSITY PARK if u dont no thats the MAIN campus.
