Transfering into Civil/Environmental Engineering Program

Have I got a question for you! I graduated from UIUC with a B.S. in Natural Resources in 2008 and am now pursuing my M.S. at LSU in wetland hydrology. I am planning on applying to undergraduate colleges for a second B.S. in environmental/civil engineering. I've already heard enough on the "is it dumb getting a second B.S.?" front. My question is, what are my chances of getting admitted as a transfer student into their civil engineering program, which from what I've gathered is somewhat difficult to transfer into?

My GPA by the time I graduate will be no higher than a 3.57 (it's 3.45 right now; I got a C my first semester in a heavily weighted class and it's been a big pain trying to bring my GPA up from a 2.75) and my GPA from UIUC as an undergrad was 3.55. I have completed my Calc requirements for sophomore admission (I and II, got an A and a B) and am planning on taking the engineering physics equivalent at LSU next semester. I am extensively studying hydaulics and hydrology right now and am working in close contact with several engineers, so my experience is... good, I would think.

That said, I am aware at the prestige of UIUC's engineering program and know that competition is stiff. I am also considering UIC and IIT, both in Chicago, but would love to attend UIUC again... just love that campus.

For what it's worth, I'm female. Any advice on how to bolster my chances of getting admitted, any tips, anything would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks. :)

Wow, I read another thread that said UIUC’s civil engineering program is #1 in the country… this I did not know. Knowing that, I’m thinking I am probably way out of my league. Perhaps I will lower the bar a little bit and set my sights on more practical schools.

Just wanted to update and say that I was recently informed that I was accepted into the CEE department at UIUC. So it’s possible!

wow congratulations!
