I've been hearing a lot about how it's hard to transfer from a university to a university. But how actually hard is it?
I currently go to Cal Poly SLO. I chose it because I wanted to do architecture but now I'm changing into business and I really want to transfer to USC. I'm only a freshman so I don't have any gpa or anything like that yet.. Please give me some advice

Since USC is not part of the UC system it's not imperative to go to a California Community College. In fact, you may be better off at Cal Poly. Your best bet is to get as high of a GPA as possible, then apply for transfer - either sophmore or junior year.

Ummm Cal Poly isnt just any Cal State--Cal Poly is a really, really solid school. As long as you did fine there, I dont see why you couldnt get into USC.

Last I heard, SLO had a really good business program. Even if you stayed there you'd be fine. Just aim for a high gpa and apply for a sophomore or junior year transfer to USC if you'd like

thanks everyone!

What puzzles me about SLO's business program is that average high school GPA of business students admitted is high, yet our program is ranked very low in US news, yet business students get decent, if not good job placement after college. Anyway it is very possible to transfer to USC. I believe there was someone on this forum who transferred from Cal Poly to USC. Just look up the prereqs and try and match them with classes at Cal Poly.

Rankings dont mean ess-h-eye-tee, man.

yeah, the ranking for cal poly's business is low..
oh, i have another question. I'm planning on going to grad school after i get my bachelor's. do you think it's better for me to stay in cal poly or transfer to usc?

You should try to transfer and if it ends up being that USC is much more expensive then I suggest you stay at Poly, get good grades, get a great job and then get your MBA from a more prestigious school (USC included).

And I do agree that the US News rankings are VERY flawed, however they tend to get the general area of good schools for most majors right and I'm surprised Poly's is not top 100. That being said the placement rate is really good. Just look at the graduate report for the business school

thank you!

sorry more questions about this..
well i got my first quarter grades and they don't look very good
i only got 3.0 for my gpa.. the arch classes are really hard here..
so it is better to wait until junior year to transfer to USC, right?
and besides raising my gpa, should i concentrate on ECs as well?

oh and btw, my high school stats:
4.1W 3.6UW
1900/2400 SAT
just in case...
