Apparently its much harder for OOS students to get in, so I was wondering if I even had a shot....

My school now is ranked in the lower part (80s) of America's Best Colleges. (USNews.com), and its in the lower half for top 50 public schools.

Its not very well known though.

I'm a science major
I have a 3.6 gpa
I have a fair amount of community service
I'll be working this semester, and volunteering at an animal shelter.
I was 5th in my HS class.
My SATs were 600s across
I currently have 50 credits, after my fall semester I will have 64 - 67 (depending on if I add another course).
I'm in my sophomore year and want to transfer for my junior and senior year.

I want to major in animal health.
I'm also looking at CSU: Fresno.

Yeah, it's interesting you'd want to go to a CSU coming from New York. I think you should give it a shot at the UCs if you want to come to California for school.

I liked it because its near an area where I want to live permanently.

And aside from Fresno, which I also plan on applying to (and aside from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo - not applying to though) I don't see animal health majors. Animal science and animal health are similar, but animal health is geared slightly more towards what I want to do. From what I've seen its more handling and identifying disease, while animal science deals more with livestock and food animals.

I will probably apply to some others, but I want to stay some what near LA.

Cal Poly Pomona.....? I can't say I've been there, but I haven't heard anything good about the city of Pomona. Apply to one of the Claremont schools! woo-hoo! Except they probably don't have the major you're looking for.

The Claremont consortium. Pomona, Claremont McKenna, Pitzer, Scripps, and Harvey Mudd Colleges. They're liberal arts colleges in Claremont (a city close to Pomona but a much better/safer area). Here's the website: Welcome to Claremont.EDU
