Hi everyone.
I applied to UCLA, UCB, UCSD, UCD
To finish my IGETC and all my prereq's I have to complete 17 units this spring. I just took 16 units in fall and got 4 A's 1 B, but I really don't want to be that exhausted anymore..

I am a Poli Sci major
My question is this: I need to complete, for IGETC, Stats, spanish 2, English 1C.
For my major I need to complete Poli Sci 2 & 10.

Is it reasonable to think that if I take Stats, spanish 2, english 1C and Poli Sci 2, that I can complete my Poli Sci 10 during the summer prior to transfer?

Any thoughts? I just know it's very important to complete my IGETC, i think more so than having my major pre-reqs done.

you have to make sure you have 60 units by the end of spring. i don’t think they would allow you to take another course in the summer that will go towards the 60 units

ucla doesn’t accept summer courses…you can take them but for ucla it wont make a difference cuz they wont count them. for the other schools i dont know.

i took 18 units one semester and got straight As…yes you’ll be exhausted but its worth it. i say go for it and finish it in the spring.

overall your major prep classes are def more important than igetc but based on your situation…ur missing an english and a math class which is a problem and needs to be finished asap.

@jitsuboy if you’re referring to English 1C as the speech class then yes that is only for CSUs and since you’re already on a tight schedule don’t bother taking it.

i think it might hurt a little but if you tell them on your update that you will take it, they might take that into consideration. however, i did hear somewhere that they disregard what you say you’ll take in the summer…
and yeah deffs make sure you’ll have 60 units by the end of spring.
for berkeley atleast, it seems like finishing igetc by spring is super important. they let you do your major pre reqs in the summer, but not your igetc courses.

Well the good news is that no university will see your grades for Spring. A lot of people take this to mean that if you can get by with mediocre passing grades, then why not? I don’t think you’ll be as stressed with 17 units this semester because of that very fact alone.

Also, you might want to try and take one of your classes, maybe Spanish? as pass/no pass. Then you really wouldn’t have to worry about the grade as much. (I wouldn’t do math or English as pass/no pass).

Good luck! It’s one more semester, it might just be more comforting to know that you got all your pre reqs and IGETC finished. Also, wouldn’t you like to have your summer off anyway? :)

@jitsuboy
yes missing a pre req for your major will def hurt your chances for ucla. i went to a transfer conference at ucla and someone asked one of the ucla reps that hes missing a pre req for his major (i forgot what major he was but it was impacted) and the ucla rep straight up told him “You’re not gonna get in if you miss that class finish it by the end of spring.”
so yes make sure you finish everything by the end of spring, when i say everything i mean igetc, your pre reqs for your major, and at least 60 units, and if you are in tap/honors program then finish ur honors requirements by the end of spring also.
