Transferring to Berkeley, easier to transfer to Peace and Conflict Studies? Chances?

hey everyone!

i am planning to apply to UC Berkeley as well as UCLA for fall 2010. i understand that berkeley doesn't admit by major but when i take a look at the admissions statistics (<a href="http://students.berkeley.edu/files/Admissions/12626_5.Info_TransAdm.pdf%5B/url%5D">http://students.berkeley.edu/files/Admissions/12626_5.Info_TransAdm.pdf</a>) it seems to be much easier to apply to the Peace and Conflict Studies Major (PACS) than to the Political Science major (the devision of PACS admits ~40% of students and the devision of political science ~18%). does it make sense for me to apply to peace and conflict studies and then switch to poltical science as soon as i am at UC Berkeley, just that i get in easier?

also, what are my general chances of being admitted? here are my statistics:

high school: i went to high school in germany even though i am now considered as a california resident at my city college (i have lived here for over a year and i have dual citizenship through my dad).

city college: i am attending my second year at santa barbara city college

IGETC: all finished after this fall semester

pre-req: all pre-requisites done by spring before i transfer, both in PACS as well as in political science.

GPA: ~3.8

extracurriculars: honors program, phi theta kappa (honors society), co-founder and vice-president of travel and culture club, senator in our student senate, working part time as a tutor for approximately 5 hours a week. i have previous full-time work experience before i moved to the states (worked for 1 year in a psychotherapeutic clinic).

so what do you think my chances are to transfer to berkeley as a peace and conflict studies major or to UCLA as a political science major? (i have a priority admission agreement with UCLA). does it make sense to apply to PACS?

thanks a lot!

i think you have a pretty good chance even for UCB’s political science!

thanks ks, i hope that you are right! i would still apply for PACS though just to increase my chances of getting accepted… any other opinions??

this might be a useful link:

[College Policies-Declaration of Major](http://ls-advise.berkeley.edu/collegepolicies/major.html)

so i checked your link and it says: “Transfer students: You are expected to declare a major in the area in which you have been admitted: biological sciences, humanities, physical sciences, or social sciences.”

but what area does peace and conflict studies belong to? according to the statistics pdf file it is in the area of “undergraduate and interdisciplinary studies” which is not mentioned on the declaration of major webpage. anyways, after doing some research it seems as if it is no problem to declare a different major after you have been accepted, as long as the major isn’t restricted (and poli sci isn’t) so i guess i shouldn’t have a problem?

right? does anybody else want to give me an opinion on how my chances are?
