Hey guys I got accepted to cal poly Pomona the other day and I was wondering if I go to Pomona then I can transfer to cal poly Slo. How hard will that be? Please advise me. This is my second year at a CC and as an engineering student I still have one more year but I somehow got into Pomona. Now pomona isnt my only choice Slo and santa barbara are my other choices that I will be applying to next year. Now the question is should I stay at a CC and transfer next year or should I go to pomona and stay there or go to pomona and try to transfer to another school.
Yes, it is possible but, not very common. By design SLO is a very difficult transfer target. Note their acceptance of just 1758 people last year (just 20%) That’s a little lower than UCB or UCLA… By charter, all CSUs must offer some preference to ‘local applicants’ Right now local is defined as 'Students whose home domicile is within San Luis Obispo, southern Monterey, and northern Santa Barbara Counties.
A significant portion of the transfers fit that definition. - making a CPP applicant’s odds worse than the headline suggests.

Since you have already spent 2 years at a CC, going to CPP, then transferring to CPSLO would not only be unlikely but, an unnecessary detour, delaying your graduation. Similarly, hanging out at your current CC for another year won’t change your odds of getting into SLO but, it would delay your graduation - which is really expensive - because you are out of the workforce. I’d suggest you head to CPP now and make the most of it. Take advantage of their graduation pledge and get on with your life.
SLO is a tough admit as a transfer if you are not in the local service area so much will depend upon your CSU transferable GPA and major. If there are still courses you need to take to transfer to your 1st choice schools, SLO and UCSB, then I would stay at your CC another and complete all the requirements.
CPP however has a well respected Engineering program so if you want to complete your degree in 2 more years vs. 3 years, then I would highly recommend you attend CPP. Where you get your Engineering Degree will not matter as much as what you do with the opportunities you are given and CPP will offer you similar opportunities as will SLO and UCSB.
