Transferring to 'dream school'

My cousin was ok with Ithaca College as a music major, but transferred away because of some larger opportunity in the major. He discovered he "missed the people" at Ithaca, especially the professors' support, so transferred back and graduated. Works in music today, following graduate school.

I suppose you could say she can go back to retrieve what she has currently, if her dream school falls short in reality. It would compare to going away for a Jr. Year Abroad or leave of absence at the original school.

If she returns, she could just say, "I lost my mind for a year, but I'm back." :p

My niece was rejected from Stanford and went to UC Berkeley instead. Got accepted as a transfer after freshman year and had a very difficult time deciding whether or not to change because by the end of that first year she had made several good friends.

She did end up choosing Stanford and loved it there, too. Never looked back. She got her BS and is graduating with MS in June.
