Transferring to Madison as a Junior

I have completed one year of school at UW Eau Claire and then am in Florida right now for my sophomore year. I was planning on staying in Florida, but have decided to head back to Wisconsin for my junior year and finish out my schooling. I have already been accepted into Whitewater where I will go if I do not get into Madison. I'm not going to get into details if I am going to get in or not, but lets just assume I get in. I would be starting my junior year as an accounting major, and have heard you have to take 24 credits before you are admitted to the program. If this is the case I would not actually be in the business program until i was a senior. Looking at it this way it seems UW would not be my best option. Anyone have any opinions on this?

Thank you!

As you may already know, UW-Whitewater has an excellent, well-regarding accounting major program.

Non-Direct Transfer Admission
Students transferring from a private college or university in Wisconsin or outside the state must complete a minimum of 12 credits IN RESIDENCE at UW-Madison, as well as Sophomore or Junior Admission Requirements to be eligible. In addition, students applying under this status will need to have achieved a total of 24 credits (including credits from UW-Madison and previous institution) to be considered eligible. These students may apply the first spring after their 12 credit in-residence requirement is fulfilled.

Transfer students who wish to apply to the Wisconsin BBA must apply by the time they accumulate 100 credits. The current courseload in the spring term in which the student applies will not be counted toward the 100 credits. If a student attempts to apply with more than 100 credits, the application system will not allow your application.

I have definitely heard very good things about the business program at Whitewater, but it is no Madison. I have no problem at all going to Whitewater, but if I get into Madison it would be hard to turn down. But thank you for the information!

Whitewater as an overall school certainly is not in the same league as UW-Madison. I understand the desire for a Madison education- college is so much more than just the job skills. Also- national versus instate reputations, deserved or not.

I am not talking about Whitewater overall and its league, I am specifically referring to its nationally recognized accounting program which is well-regarded among employers and CPAs alike.

In an old study, for the period 1991-2000, UW-Whitewater ranked #1 in the nation for its accounting graduates passing the CPA exam on the 1st attempt.
