Would it be feasible to transfer out of LA to Stanford or other prestigious schools (Harvard, Yale, etc...)?

If yes, how difficult will it be generally and what qualifications are we recommended to obtain courses/grades wise?

It's crazy difficult to transfer to those schools. It's like sub-5% or something in general. Check out CollegeBoard. Look up the school name. Click on the admissions tab. You'll find the admissions transfer rate.

cmon man...its Stanford!! of course its gonna be hard

My Dad went to UCLA and said he had no trouble transferring up to Berkeley to take classes for a year. Is it still pretty easy to go between UC campuses to take classes?

What classes should students take if they are considering transfer to Stanford?

Why don't you visit their admissions site (transfers webpages) and find out what you need? Or find the number of the admissions office if the website doesn't not satisfy you. If you wanted to transfer to Stanford after your first-year, they would pay special attention to how well you did in high school. Then, they would see perhaps the first and possibly second quarter of your freshman year and make their decision accordingly. (Heck, I don't even know if they allow first-year transfers!) Anyway, check their website.

why not go to cc for two years? I heard they have higher transfer rate than universities plus you won't take up a spot for someone that actually want to be in UCLA

What's CC? by the way UCs do not have waitinglist if what i heard is correct.

CC = community college
Most CC students plan on transferring anyway, so there's probably more of a support network for transfers and whatnot.

Doesn't it hurt your resume though?

you have a higher chance of transfering to another university from community college than from another university so I was just trying to say that he have the best chance of transfering to stanford that way...

"plus you won't take up a spot for someone that actually want to be in UCLA"

Exactly. I'm getting f-ing tired of people like this, people who consider themselves above schools that are some people's first choice, and then clog up the system by staying at that school and planning to stay until they get their precious transfer. Why go somewhere you don't really want to? You might as well go to a CC. Apparently these people just have money to blow and they're completely rude and inconsiderate.

Sorry if that sounded really ranty, I'm just getting annoyed by things like this. I wouldn't go to UCSB and then ***** about how to transfer to Berkeley, because I know I'd be stealing a spot from somebody who applied to SB as a slight reach.

srabiee,

Because 1st gen parents think that CCs are degrading.

oh yah? i wish.
my best friend's parents are convinced that if she doesn't get into UCLA, she should go to our CC and then try to transfer.
her preferred plan B is Cal Poly. which her parents don't think is a good school.
so, by following their train of thought, their logic is: UCLA > CC > Cal Poly????

Go to UCLA! You have a really small shot to get into Stanford as a transfer. (How much will being a CC transfer?! Who knows! You would be putting all of your eggs in one basket. Plus your experience for 2 years at UCLA will be better than 2 at CC. You might even love it here.) You might as well come into UCLA so that you can spend 4 years here if you don't get in to Stanford.

Last I checked, UCLA was also prestigious...

By the way, I went to a CC, and nobody has asked me about it. Not once. It seriously doesn't matter.

How prestigious is UCLA?

go wear a UCLA sweatshirt around where you live, or anyplace you travel to, and see the responses you get.
...just for kicks, try the same with other sweatshirts (or hats, since they're cheaper). such as, stanford, SC, Cal, or other UC's. see what happens, personally i'd be interested by the result xD
