Transferring to the Ivy League

I'm a first year direct med student at the University of Miami/Miller School of Medicine. I managed to get acceptances to both Columbia and Cornell but ended up choosing UMiami because of the guaranteed admission to medical school. I really want to do hospital administration and think that having a ivy backing would help with getting into a top tier business school after medical school. Any suggestions from someone whose transferred in some sort of similar situation?

Think very carefully before you make a decision about transferring out of a guaranteed acceptance program. The ‘ivy’ life is far from glamorous when you’re dedicating your college experience to producing a pristine med school application and feel like you’re playing a game of pure chance when you finally apply to med school after 4+ years of hard work. You just started undergrad…I find it hard to believe that you have had enough exposure to hospital administration to already flirt with the idea of dropping a guaranteed spot. Talk to some people, find out what it takes to get into an MBA through the MD route and see what you can do at Miami to get there. Unless you’re an exceptionally talented individual (photographic memory, etc.) who doesn’t have to work hard for results, transferring is the last option you should consider.

I actually do have a photographic memory and I ask because my sister attends Harvard.

@TwasMe , you can complete your UMiami program then pursue MBA degree later. One good example of successful outcome of this route was Gary Gottlieb, MD, MBA, a graduate of both RPI/AMC and Wharton Graduate School of Business of the U Penn. He was the president of Brigham and Women’s Hospital.
