Transferring to UT-Austin Spring 2014

Nah I’m not at ACC. I’m at Lonestar, specifically the Montgmery campus. No way in hell I’m I going to that hellhole for another semester, much less two or three. I can barely wake up in the morning knowing I have to be there for another day so that’s not an option. If for some reason I get denied from UT I have UTD as my backup. If for some reason I can’t find the money I’d rather just stop going to school for a semester or something. Going to another another campus isn’t really an option since my job prohibits me from communiting that far away. My school offered me the honors program but the only two classes offered are GOVT 2305 and ENGL 1301/2 (each of which I already have taken). If I could I would much rather be at ACC. It’s not really the fact that it’s community college (although that is a huge factor). It’s just Lonestar itself. If I were at ACC I would be much happier but it wouldn’t make sense for me to be paying taht much in rent just for a community college.

The only thing I like about Lonestar are my professors. However, although I respect them, I can’t really take my classes serriously.

Also if there are any typos I am typing this in class right now.

U must really hate it there haha.

Oh yeah. Everyday it’s a nightmare. I can’t stand it. I have a hard time getting up in the morning knowing I have to spend another day at that place.

Of course if I get into UT that will all change. I’m really hoping I get in. Just have to stay on top of my studies and hope for the best.

I hope you get in! If u don’t mind telling me, what was ur gpa so I can get an idea of what I need to work for.

Right now it’s a 3.43 but I should be able to raise it to a 3.56. If it were not for my dual credit English courses it would be a 3.8 (I only made one B last semester).

I know exactly how you feel JP. I go to one of the lone star campuses as well and I feel the same way you do. I’m hoping to get into UT this fall and I have already applied and just waiting to get my thirty hours done this semester. Honestly, I’m probably moving to Austin and going to acc as a back up. I really can’t stand it here anymore.

I would go to ACC but realistically it just doesn’t make any sense to me to spend that much money renting in Austin just to attend a community college. I have UT Dallas as my backup since I’m pretty certain I’ll get in. Just as long as I can get out of here.

Which campus are you at?

edit: I stalked your profile a little bit. Holy hell 4.0? You aren’t going to get denied. And if you do that sucks because that means I will most definitely get denied. I wouldn’t worry if I were you. Even if you get a 3.87 you will get into UGS. I’m the one who needs to worry. Curse dual credit.

@ JebSpring1: Dude, that’s exactly what I did. I just couldn’t stand living in my crappy little town anymore, so I packed up and moved to Austin. I didn’t move here JUST for ACC, but it was definitely in the plans. I don’t regret it for a second. Austin is the place to be, whether you get into UT or not. Where else can I buy tacos and cupcakes from a trailer at midnight on a Wednesday? :D

Ahh ok I see. So if I had around a 3.7-3.8 ish for that one semester and I met the 30 hour requirement, do you guys think I could get in for a Gov/Eco route?

It depends on what your GPA after your second semester is. I believe Liberal Arts is the easiest college to get into so with a 3.5 you should be good.

I will have 30 hours after my 1st semester

I understand that. What I am saying is the GPA they look at will be whatever you have after your second semester.

LOL@: “Where else can I buy tacos and cupcakes from a trailer at midnight on a Wednesday?”

Totally true statement! I <3 SoCo!! :)

@Korsgaard: How are you going to have 30hrs after one semester? 15hrs dual credit from HS, I assume?

Actually my bad. I didn’t understand. Woops.

But how do you have 30 hours after one semester?

I get 25 hours from AP credits

@jp I go to the cy fair one. It’s pretty bad. It’s honestly like an extension of high school. I can’t stand it. And thank you for your positivity. the reason acc right now is a backup is because I found a cheaper than average place in west campus that combined with tuition at acc, would be cheaper than tuition at universities like U of H or UTD.
And don’t stress man. I’m sure you’ll get in. I’m sure you’ll get into UGS.

Well I mean of course ACC will be cheaper. It’s a community college after all. It’s just I’d prefer going to a actual university so I can take all my major related classes my second year instead of being bombarded with project-related classes in just four semesters. Hopefully I’ll get into UGS but if that happens I really only have one shot to transfer into RTF (you have to have 24 hours in residence to attempt an internal transfer and getting a high GPA at UT will be much harder).

Transfer from: ACC and Sam Houston State University
GPA: 3.56 after the summer term ends with 48 credit hours
Applying to:

  1. Environmental Science-College of Natural Sciences
  2. College of Undergraduate Studies
Essays are well written and have a recommendation from an old employer. At Sam I was really involved in the community, and in Austin I volunteer in animal rescue and at a community center.
On a low note, when I first went ACC I kind of got lost and took Anthropology, Archeology, and Sociology, being 9 hours that I actually didn’t need, but I have been trying to balance my mistake. Also, I haven’t taken Calculus.
I would be thankful to know my realistic chances for admission because this is my third attempt and the one with the highest GPA. If I don’t get in I am strongly considering UH.

Any thoughts??

Chance me?

@zachary28: You will not be admitted to CNS as a transfer student without completion of or current enrollment in calculus I, at a minimum. I don’t believe UGS has the same requirement in place, so you might have a chance there without it. Unless/until you plan on diving into the calculus fun, it would probably be wise to change both 1st & 2nd choices to majors outside of CNS.

http://bealonghorn.utexas.edu/transfer/before/requirements

Once admitted, you can always apply later for a transfer into CNS if you wish, but I would expect that the math readiness requirements will be much the same regardless of whether the transfer is internal or external; I’m not positive about this last part, though, so you would want to check with an advisor first.
