Its my freshman year at Loyola University Maryland, second semester, and campus police finds less than a gram of pot in my room, and a pipe. Stupid mistake not being more careful, but now im on my couch till summer on suspension for the remainder of the semester. If i decide to return in the fall, lifes going to be real tough being on differed suspension for the entire year, and knowing how life is on campus, im sure that differed suspension is going to turn into another suspension real quick. In order to keep my options open, I'm looking to transfer for next fall if its not yet too late. Loyola didnt let me finish my second semester, but for my first semester I received a 3.0
Mainly im looking to transfer into Rutgers. i'm also a nj resident and a previously accepted student. I know suspensions never look good on record, but how bad do you think Rutgers will view my situation? How bad are suspensions of this nature and caliber typically viewed? am i fckd
also im open to any suggestions as to what to do with my life until the summer
thanks for the help guys

“knowing how life is on campus, im sure that differed suspension is going to turn into another suspension real quick.”

Why, because you’d be stupid enough to bring drugs into your dorm again?

Don’t get me wrong, I have no problem with pot, but it’s just stupid to mess up your academic career that way.

I would be surprised if Rutgers would take you as a transfer student with one complete semester and fresh off a drug suspension.

It is stupid to mess up my academic career this way, which is why im praying ill be able to turn it around. And not cause id bring drugs back onto campus , cause loyola campus police hand citations out like candy. I dont know anyone who goes out at night that hasnt been written up at least once…
but im poor and even without this incident i would be looking into other universities, this is just a big speed bump

You need to get up of your couch, and pay a visit to the transfer admissions office at Rutgers. Talk with the counselors there about your specific situation, why what happened happened, and how you have changed your ways. They are the only people who can give you a fair assessment of your options.

Why don’t you go to CC in NJ and spend one semester or two? Get your GPA above 3.0 and I think they will consider that you’re trying to change your academic career around.

I’d give the same advice I have to anyone that has made a mistake while in school:

Man up and accept responsibility.

As happymomof1 said, get serious and go to a Rutgers counselor. Have a sit down, explain that you made a big mistake but want to turn it around and your strong interest in the school. Just you being there and explaining your situation shows that you are serious about turning things around and wanting to go to Rutgers.

Get through another semester, pump out good grades, get involved in EC’s, follow the counselors instructions and apply. If the guys at your school hand out citations like candy as you said, either suck it up and stay under the radar (Being frank, you put yourself in this bad position) or consider transferring to another school that does not put out citations like candy. Long story short, you can come back from this but only if you are willing to put forth the effort to do so.
