Transferring

Hi, everyone.

I have a 2.7 overall GPA at the high school I am graduating from; the low grades are due to the amount of red tape, rote memorization and overall monotony that I refused to become a part of. My teachers and fellow students view me as an intellectual, but few students recognize the flaws in my GPA, as I really turned things around senior year.

In any event, the college I was hoping to attend ended up being far too expensive. My family cannot afford it. So, I am forced by circumstance to attend Northern Illinois University. I plan to transfer after a year of perfect grades and self-application. I want to transfer to Purdue, Chicago, BU, Pitt, UIUC, Virginia, or elsewhere. Is this feasible? Can an excellent first-year college record offset generally poor high school performance?

You need to read Transfer Admissions 101 on the Transfer forum. Your HS gpa will count more in transfer admissions if you are trying to move after your first year as colleges have only one sem/qt to evaluate you on when you apply. Therefore, they will rely heavily on your HS record, test scores and ECs.
