Congratulations on your admission to Chicago’s Class of 2013! To allow you to experience the University of Chicago first-hand, we invite you and your parents to visit any time or to attend one of three events for admitted students during the month of April. To help you plan your trip, we have provided directions to the University and more information in the main ‘visiting’ section.

do you guys think uchicago will offer me a travel grant if I ask them and tell them about my tight economic situation?

My parents and I would REALLY REALLY love to visit, but I just don’t think its possible for my family to afford right now.

thanks! :)

Unfortunately, you won’t be able to talk your way in to a travel grant- grants are pre-determined for a variety of reasons (severe financial difficulty in visiting, distance from Chicago, URM status, from schools or areas underrepresented at Chicago- these are all considered), and the office can only offer so many grants. So, sorry- very few are given out, and it can be really tough to determine who is offered one and who isn’t, and plenty of qualified people are unfortunately left out. You’ll get a “sorry, no” from the admissions office if you ask, so please please don’t flood Ms. King with your requests.

Alright, thanks gracello (I read somewhere you’re a part of the UChicago Admissions board, right?)

Well, it was worth a try - or thought. Hopefully, it’ll all turn out well.

thanks for the reply!

Yep yep, I am the Web Content Director of the Prospective Students’ Advisory Committee, aka PSAC, which is the student group attached to the admissions office. sorry about the grant, but glad I can help out with info!

Yep, I got a “sorry, no.” Darn it…
