I received a letter today inviting me to the Trustee Opportunity Scholarship Program at Kenyon in February. However, I have no idea why I got this letter, since the scholarship is for "students of color and first-generation students". I am neither: I am a white girl from Ohio, and both my parents attended Kent State (one graduated).

According to the Kenyon College website, "Trustee Opportunity Scholars are top students who come from underrepresented backgrounds, including first-generation students." So ummm yea......I'm not really sure :D I received a letter today as well about the program. I'm not a first-generation student because of my mom but my father is Puerto-Rican so I assume that's why I was invited. Could you have made a mistake on your application and been accidently marked as a minority?

Yeah! I was sooo excited when I read the letter! A weekend (all expenses paid) at Kenyon... how much better could it get? :)

But I'm not really a minority... I mean, I am Korean-American, but I'm not a special commodity or anything; there are several Korean-Americans at Kenyon. And on the Kenyon website, it said that students that wanted to be considered for the scholarship HAD to have their application in by 12/15/08. I sent my application in on the deadline (1/15/09).

I'm wondering whether or not they made a mistake... or something. I'm definitely not special enough for the admissions office to overlook the turn-in date.

Help?

Other than that, I'M SO EXCITED FOR THE WEEKEND OF FEB. 21 - 23!!! ;)

I got invited to this (first generation... I don't remember telling them this). But Kenyon has kinda fallen off my list recently... as much as I loved the school, I don't know if its a good fit for me. So I probably won't attend.

I'm extremely excited to be going as well! I really loved it the first time I visited. The only thing I was worried about was the size of Gambier and how my overnight host seemed to be the only person at Kenyon who didn't have a life :)

Yay, Kenyon just booked my tickets. I also found out that ALL students will have interviews with admissions. Good thing I didn't reserve one with an alum. I cannot wait. Someone should go, "Is anyone from College Confidential here?" :D

Invitations to the TOS scholarship weekend went out to a select group of first generation students (meaning neither parent has a degree from a four-year institution of higher learning) and students of color. If you are not in either of these two groups and believe you have received an invitation in error, please contact your area director:
