So, my highest ACT score is a 32. Northwestern and WashU are the most competitive schools I'm applying to. Would the 1 point difference give me much of an advantage? The main reason I want to retake is because 33 has always been my goal; however, my low math score keeps holding me back (though I've gotten 33 composite on practice tests). I'm just trying to decide if investing hours in studying would be worth it. The December ACT (I know I'm past the regular deadline) would be my last chance.

I'm afraid I'm obsessing a bit much...I guess I'd just feel better with myself if I got a 33. What does everyone else think?

that was exactly my situation. i had a 32 but really wanted a 34 just because. but my science score was holding me down. i retook it without studying and got a 33. even though its just one point, it made me feel a little better at least.

^Agreed. Your time and effort are better spent strengthening the other parts of your application. The only exception would be if you need the 33 to qualify for merit aid or to get into a specific program that has a score cutoff.

You should if you think you could improve.

My DD who had a 34 with a 12 essay retaked ACT in Oct because one of the sub scores is only a low 30. If all goes well, she will have a super score of 36.

WUSTL's mid 50% is around a 32-33. You're perfectly fine where you are... a 32 won't be the reason (if) you are rejected at either school you listed.

99 pecent of schools will accept your score. But if you have you're mind set on a "top" school, then you shouldn't be comfortable until you score a 36.
