Trying to transfer to SUNY New Paltz

Right now I go to Suffolk Community College. I am trying to get into SUNY New Paltz for Spring 2018.

My GPA right now is a 3.1. I know that the minimum GPA for transfer students is a 2.75, so I’m good in that regard. But i am very nervous about my SAT scores. My highest score as of right now is 1120 (using the new grading scale). I have to speak with my mother but I am going to try to take the next SAT in October and work hard to bring up my score. New Paltz does super-scoring, and my super-score would be 1580 (i’m not sure if i added my scored right with that though). I have not taken the ACT.
I have two letters of recommendation being sent out soon.
I have less than 45 credits, after this semester I will have a total of 38 credits. I will be going in with an undeclared major. I am aware that if I have less than 45 credits, my high school transcript and SAT scores are required. I need to call my high school for my transcript, but if i remember correctly, i had a 2.4 GPA. Unfortunately, I didn’t do great in high school due to being severely depressed in my first two years. My last two being consumed by AP art. I was foolish in high school and didnt realize the severity of my grades and I am fully regretting it right now.

Before anyone gets on my case about not trying hard enough, I’m already beating myself up about it. I’ve heard it all from my mom already and I’m determined to try even harder. College is going to become my life this semester. I did great last semester, better than I ever have in high school. I’m going to do even better this semester though.

As of right now, do you think I have a chance for getting in for Spring 2018? I’m really nervous, as I don’t think my current grades will be good enough. I am going to apply anyway though just in case, and I will most likely be taking another SAT (and studying hard in the small amount of time that I have).

Why don’t you finish 2 years where you are and apply with an associate’s degree? I don’t think you’d need your high school record or test scores that way.

It sounds like you have a really good attitude for the future so don’t beat yourself up about it. I agree that maybe it’d be better to wait until you have the 45 credits so your high school record isn’t part of the equation. I think your SAT score should be good for New Paltz.

i called the school and told them my situation. they said that i should apply now and then once i have my new SAT scores to send those in along with my transcripts. so that’s what im doing. things are looking up, i just gotta study super hard. thank you for your replies. if i dont get in for spring, im gonna make sure i get in for fall next year. this is my dream school.

Sounds great! Good luck, New Paltz is a very nice and friendly school. Keep us updated!

superscoring is your highest reading score on the test that you have taken plus the highest math scores when looking at all of your test scores.

for example if on your first try you got a 550 on EBRW (reading) and a 570 on the math and on your second try you got a 600 on the reading and a 550 on the math, your superscore would be an 1170 - 600 reading (from test 2) and 570 math (from test 1)

I wish you well in your transfer process. However, I think that you would have an easier time getting admitted if you waited until you completed your associates degree. Right now they will look at your high school grades and scores, where if you have an associates, it would not be an issue

Waiting one semester would make more sense, since your HS grades and SAT score wouldn’t be an issue then.
